Recruit reactions: South Carolina’s summer cookout

Plenty of high-level talent was on campus at South Carolina this afternoon for Gamecock football’s last big summer recruiting event.

GamecockCentral.com is gathering returns from prospects and continuing to update this story as the reactions roll in.

— Four-star DB Samari Matthews said: “It was great. Always good getting to touch base with Coach Gray and Coach Beamer.”

Asked what he thought about the event itself:

“Overall a great event. It’s always great vibes when come down to USC. I enjoyed just catching up with Coach Gray.”

Matthews is headed to Florida State, FSU, and Clemson the next several days. He’s not close yet to trimming down his top 11.

— 6-foot-8 offensive tackle Gabriel Osenda, who plays high school ball for Erik Kimrey at Baylor School, made it in as expected. So did his teammate, EDGE Bradley Ilunga-Bisselele, who is committed to Pete Lembo at Buffalo.

— 2026 RB Carsyn Baker gave his cookout visit a strong review.

“What stood out the most is the relationship I (saw) that the coaches had with each other and how much of a priority I am to there 2026 class. The conversation had with offensive coordinator (Dowell) Loggains about the offense and the backs he’s had in his system and how they succeeded.”
