Recruit of the Week: Kansas State target Gerayas Grimes

The KSO recruit of the week is Arizona corner and new Kansas State target Gerayas Grimes.
NAME: Gerayas Grimes
RANKING: UR
CLASS: 2024
POSITION: Corner
HOMETOWN: Queen Creek, Arizona
HIGH SCHOOL: Casteel
POWER FIVE OFFERS: Kansas State
COMMITTED: Northern Arizona
Recruiting Summary
The recruitment of Gerayas Grimes was pretty simple at one point. He was committed to Northern Arizona and it was quiet. However, things have changed recently. The big difference? Kansas State has entered the picture with an offer.
Not only did he grab an offer from Northern Arizona a while ago, military academies Army and Air Force also had an invite for him. Those two were then followed by Fordham. But Grimes chose to give Northern Arizona his verbal pledge at the end of July.
He has been on the K-State radar for a bit and it culminated in him receiving a scholarship from the reigning Big 12 Champions on August 15. Assistant Van Malone has developed a solid relationship with the Queen Creek native, and Grimes plans to visit Kansas State for a game this season.
The Wildcats may not be his only Power Five opportunity, either. Illinois is starting to show interest in him as well and have expressed a desire to learn more about him.

Evaluation of Kansas State target
An interesting note on Grimes is that he plays safety in high school, but he is being recruited by Kansas State as a cornerback. We have seen K-State move players from cornerback to safety like Josh Hayes, Marques Sigle and Jordan Wright, but we have not seen the opposite move.
In what has become a trait for just about every member of the Kansas State secondary, Grimes has some serious speed. He can really flip his hips and changes direction very well. The most impressive thing I’ve seen on his film is how he can put his foot in the ground and accelerate.
Grimes may not be the longest or the tallest, but he can be sticky in coverage. Jacob Parrish and Kanijal Thomas are around the same height as Grimes and garnered offers from K-State because of their speed and ability to stay attached to the wideout.
The Arizona native also isn’t afraid to stick his face in and be physical. He comes downhill and strikes guys.
Prediction
The prediction for Grimes is fluid since his recruitment is only starting to heat up at the FBS level. He’ll be a late riser. However, Kansas State would be the obvious choice if his process were to draw to a close today.
