RB Kewan Lacy looking for ‘somewhere to build my legacy’ heading into Miami official visit this weekend

RB Kewan Lacy looking for ‘somewhere to build my legacy’ heading into Miami official visit this weekend

Miami showed Lancaster (TX) 2024 three-star running back Kewan Lacy plenty about why he needed to consider the Hurricanes on his visit to Coral Gables April 4. So this weekend, the No. 42 running back in the On3 Industry Ranking wants to hear what Miami can offer for his legacy on his official visit this weekend.

Lacy remains “very interested” in the Hurricanes and listed Miami among his top six schools earlier this month along with TCU, Ole Miss, Baylor, Arizona State, and Nebraska. The On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine lists the Hurricanes as the frontrunner with an estimated 29.4% chance of landing the No. 533 overall prospect ahead of Nebraska (19.4%) and Arizona State (16.7%).

“Is this somewhere I’m wanted? Is there somewhere I’m needed?” Lacy said when asked what he hopes to learn on his June 2 official visit. “Is this somewhere I can build my legacy at?”

Lacy said Miami’s culture and the effort the coaching staff is rebuilding the program with have helped the Hurricanes stand out, and he hopes to see Miami take a step forward on the field this season. The Hurricanes’ coaching staff has maintained daily contact with the 6-foot, 190-pound running back who has collected more than two dozen total offers.

Running backs coach Tim Harris has served as Lacy’s primary recruiter, and Lacy said his recruiting pitch has stood out to him.

“Whenever I went down there for an unofficial visit, we just talked about the NFL experience because so many coaches at Miami went to Miami and went to the league,” Lacy said. “You really get an NFL experience, then there’s NFL guys that will come back and train at Miami. So you can work out with NFL people around.”

Lacy plans to take official visits to all six programs in his top six and hopes to announce his commitment before his school starts district play in September.

CaneSport’s Take

With three-star running back Chris Wheatley-Humphrey already committed in the 2024 class, Miami is still only going after a few other ball carriers in this recruiting cycle.

Miami will get four-star running back Jerrick Gibson — the No. 1 running back in the class — to campus for an official visit June 9, and the Hurricanes are still recruiting four-star running back Kevin Riley and are on the radar of four-star running back Ca’lil Valentine. Wheatley-Humphrey will take an official visit to Coral Gables as well, although he is yet to set a date for his visit.
