RADAR ’26: In-state offensive lineman Gregory Patrick to visit Michigan State for home opener

Michigan State will welcome back what is becoming a very familiar face in East Lansing, in Portage (MI) Northern offensive lineman Gregory Patrick for the Spartan home opener against Central Michigan on September 1. The 6-foot-5, 250-pounder camped with Michigan State in June, earning an offer from Spartan offensive line coach Chris Kapilovic. Patrick also visited again at the end of July for the Spartan Dawg Con recruiting event. His father, Joseph Patrick, played offensive line for the Spartans, signing in 1999.

Patrick holds other offers from Oklahoma, Minnesota, and Cental Michigan. He earned the Oklahoma offer after attending a camp in Norman, in June.

The Spartans will take on Central Michigan on Friday evening, as Patrick and Portage Northern will play Holland (MI) West Ottawa at home on Thursday (Aug. 31) evening. It will be the Spartan legacies first visit gameday to campus as a recruit. He did attend the Rutgers game in East Lansing in 2022.

“I am going to the season opener against CMU,” Patrick told SpartanMag.com. “Maybe another game as well. I also might go to a Minnesota and an Oklahoma game too this year. (Our) plans are not final on that though.”

Patrick has built a strong bond with Kapilovic, starting before the offer was extended.

“I think he’s a great coach and he’s building something special with the offensive line culture at MSU,” Patrick said. “Our relationship is great, we get in touch when possible. My coaches and him talk a lot not just about recruiting but about different offenses and defenses.”

“An offer from Michigan State has been a goal since I was little and an opportunity to play for them, it means a lot. At camp I was just focused on doing everything with maximum juice and effort. I think it showed a lot to the coaches.”
