RADAR ’25: Michigan State making WR Tavian McNair a high priority

Michigan State offered class of 2025 wide receiver Tavian McNair, of Las Vegas (NV) Bishop Gorman in March of 2022. The 6-foot-2, 165-pounder, produced out of one of the nation’s biggest high school football powerhouse, has taken two visits to East Lansing so far during his recruitment. The first visit came during the offer, with the second coming this March.

McNair holds other offers from Georgia, Oregon, Texas A&M, Utah, and more. As of right now, he is not yet ranked by the 2025 On3 Industry Rankings. Michigan State wide receivers coach Courtney Hawkins has kept in close contact for over a year since the offer was extended. McNair is looking to plan a third visit for a game this fall.

“Things have been great with (Michigan State),” McNair said. “Coach Hawkins has reached out and I plan to be back that way this fall for a game.”

“He’s saying they are excited to get the process going, and really excited to show me what Michigan State really has to of. Now that it’s time to focus on the class of 2025, they hope I would consider Michigan State as my home moving forward.”

McNair has also been impressed with Michigan State head coach Mel Tucker.

“I love it,” McNair said. “I really like what Michigan State is doing and I really think Coach Tucker is great. Coach Hawkins is great at bringing the best out of his wide receivers. East Lansing would be a good place.”

The receiver was impressed by the Michigan State campus, hoping to explore more of the surrounding areas. He has also taken note of the fanbase and their presence on Saturday’s and via social media.

“I don’t feel like I’ve gotten a chance to really experience East Lansing yet, but I did see downtown, and I like the atmosphere of campus as well,” McNair said. “There is a lot of school pride and a big support for the school, and I like that. The big game atmosphere is great there from what I’ve seen and heard.”

East Lansing is a long way from home, although McNair says distance won’t play a factor in his final decision. Each visit to campus raises the comfort level with Michigan State.

“Wherever I go, distance won’t be an issue for me,” McNair said. “Of course, I will get home sick, but I think I would be fine. Both my mom and dad are supportive in whatever I choose, and they are going to help me. I would be willing to travel anywhere.”
