Quinn Kwasniak establishes Ohio high school basketball record for three-pointers made

Cornerstone Christian’s Quinn Kwasniak has established himself as one of the finest shooters in Ohio high school basketball history. However, no one in the state is better than him in converting three-point attempts after he broke the all-time record.

As The News-Herald’s Ben Hercik wrote, Kwasniak had 481 three-point field goals before their January 25 match against Dalton. However, he tied Zac Rasile’s record of 485 in the first quarter. The Army Black Knights commit broke the record early in the second quarter and finished the game with seven three-pointers. The Patriots needed all of Kwasniak’s 38 points to defeat the Bulldogs by one point 78-77.

In addition to the all-time record, Kwasniak also has the most treys converted in a season with 155 in 2023-24. While Kwasniak only has 100 three-pointers after their win over Dalton, the Patriots still have five regular-season games left. Likewise, the senior can add more to his count during the Division VII state playoffs.

Earlier this month, Quinn Kwasniak surpassed LeBron James in the Ohio high school basketball all-time scoring list. He went up to fifth after scoring 59 points, including 11 three-pointers, in their 84-51 victory over Open Door Christian.

Since then, Kwasniak also overtook Geno Ford to climb to fourth in the all-time list. The only ones in front of him are Jay Burson (2,958), Luke Kennard (2,977), and Jon Diebler (3,208). Meanwhile, if Kwasniak can sustain his 37.4 points-per-game average, he can finish the regular season 196 points away from Diebler’s record.

However, Kwasniak will have additional games depending on how the Patriots will fare in the playoffs. Cornerstone Christian must do better than last season’s outcome because their campaign ended in the district finals against Richmond Heights.

Beyond the numbers, Kwasniak is keen on bringing a second Ohio high school basketball state championship to Cornerstone Christian. The Patriots won it all in 2015-16 and haven’t returned to the state tournament since 2017-18.
