Question of the week: Who leads Kansas State in receptions?

DG: For me there’s a few candidates to lead Kansas State in receptions this season.
Keagan Johnson poses a lot of potential after transferring from Iowa. He had 18 catches for 352 yards and two touchdowns as a true freshman in 2021. Considering that the Iowa offense isn’t exactly the most conducive for large numbers from a wideout, that’s a nice chunk.
What we do know is Malik Knowles led K-State in catches last season with 48. Johnson will be taking his role from last season, and it is probably safe to imagine that he will grab as many catches as Knowles did in 2022.
Ben Sinnott is another obvious choice to lead Kansas State in receptions. He probably will lead the Wildcats in receiving touchdowns. The Iowa native had a terrific end to last season with Will Howard under center.
In the seven games that Howard started, Sinnott collected 20 of his 31 receptions. That number puts him on a 37-catch pace for a 13-game slate. And something to remember is that it was his first season as a full-time starter.
With his rapport with Howard and him being expected to take another leap, it would not be surprising if Sinnott ends with close to 48 catches as well, much like what Johnson is capable of and what we saw from Knowles last year.
Phillip Brooks is a bit of a sleeper candidate for K-State. He was third on the team in receptions last season with 45 after finishing second in 2021 with 43. His consistency and reliability has been an asset for the Wildcats.
It is not crazy to think most teams will try to take away Johnson and Sinnott and could leave Brooks as the beneficiary and the potential to have his best season in terms of production. While that is true, he probably still falls short.
I believe Johnson will lead Kansas State in receptions this season and could eclipse 60.
