QB Performances Lead Sooners Camp

QB Performances Lead Sooners Camp

NORMAN, Okla. – It’s no surprise to anyone who was looking at the roster that the afternoon session of Oklahoma’s camp was led by a trio of quarterbacks. It was a trio of quarterbacks that the Oklahoma staff may well hope to be part of their own quarterback room in the future. That trio was newly-offered 2027 quarterback Peyton Houston, key 2026 Sooners offer Jaden O’Neal, and long-time 2025 commitment Kevin Sperry.

The trio, with the help of a few quality receivers, put on quite an aerial show on Thursday afternoon in Norman.

Sperry put together another strong performance, much as the ones we’ve discussed over the past week. But, understandably, on this day it was the newcomers that drew a lot of the eyeballs, and cameras, from onlookers.

O’Neal, had several concerned he wouldn’t be working out after arriving a little late to the workout, but from the moment he stepped foot inside the Everest Indoor Training Center to the point he was taking part in drills couldn’t have been much more than five minutes. And upon seeing him, it was easy to see a lot of the enthusiasm. O’Neal is every bit his listed 6-foot-3 and 200-pounds.

From there, O’Neal showed off just about anything someone could have asked for. He showed off a big arm and, as he does on tape, showed the Sooners staff his ability for uncanny touch down the field. He has a nice, repeatable, release and consistently delivers on time to receiver. What was interesting in watching him is that he can throw from different arm slots and, even in a camp setting, showed some improvisational skills.

In short, O’Neal looks like he’ll move far beyond his current No. 78 in the On3 Industry rankings.

Sooners Make Another New Offer at Quarterback

While O’Neal was impressive another big-time gunslinger who was on hand and doing work was Shreveport (La.) Evangel Christian Academy 2027 star Peyton Houston. Houston impressed Seth Littrell and the Sooners staff enough to become Oklahoma’s second offer at quarterback in the class.

Houston is well put together with the lower body of a running back to go with a nice arm a quick and easy delivery. The big-time quarterback, who already held offers from Texas, Texas A&M, Miami, Tennessee, and Ole Miss, was all that he is advertised to be.

Going through drills you could see Houston kind of finding his feet but once he got into one-on-ones, he was taking part in the target practice right alongside the two Sooners offers.

Houston has a quick release and was particularly strong throwing some intermediate routes, 10-yard outs, crossing routes, and beyond.

There was a lot of talent on hand but the three quarterbacks definitely stole the afternoon.
