While the majority of the prospects were hoping to land an offer, there were some who camped on Wednesday who received the nod from Florida in the past.
One of those familiar faces was Teddy Foster, a 2024 defensive back from Sarasota (Fla.) Cardinal Mooney. He received the green light from the Gators on May 23 and then solidified his position on the board with yesterday’s performance in front of Billy Napier’s staff.
“It was good; it was really good actually,” Foster told Gators Online. “It was good putting faces with names and getting acquainted with everybody. Also, it was good just seeing the actual complex for the first time. There is a lot of stuff to like. Everything is nice and brand new. There is new weight room, the dining hall, and everything is impressive how they are 24/7 for athletes.”
Although his On3 profile lists him as a safety, Foster says the Gators are primarily recruiting him for cornerback. They believe he could take on a role in the back end of the defense if needed, but the plan is to start him at cornerback.
“They have talked about me being versatile,” said Foster. “We haven’t went too in-depth on where they want to put me at, but I am being recruited as a corner right now. I’m not shying away from moving to safety or anything like that; I feel like I can play anywhere in the secondary. That’s not a problem to me.”
Foster will return to the Swamp for an official visit
If all goes as planned, the 6-foot-2, 175-pound Foster will be returning to Gainesville later this month. It would be for an official visit. Additional official visit destinations include North Carolina, which plays host this weekend, and Vanderbilt at a date to be determined.
USC, Miami, Tennessee, Michigan State, Illinois, West Virginia, Maryland and Minnesota are some schools that have offered Foster as well.
“Yeah, we are in the process of figuring that out right now,” Foster said of officially visiting UF. “We talked about either next week or at the end of June. We haven’t put in an official date, but that should be coming out shortly.”
When Foster returns to UF in the near future, it will mark his second trip to Gainesville as a recruit.
There were times he traveled up to Gainesville in the past; however, that was because his sister just graduated from the University of Florida. Foster does not mind having to leave the Sunshine State for college, but it’s safe to say his latest opportunity from the Gators is a game changer.
“I mean, right now, they are kind of stuck into a good position,” Foster said. “I was really under recruited by Florida schools, so picking up Florida was big for me. It’s a big SEC school, and then just being close to home and stuff like that, it was a happy shock because I have the chance to stay home and play SEC ball.
“I’m not afraid to leave, but being recruited, I hadn’t had any big schools from Florida. I had FAU, FIU and USF, but I never had any big schools. I was probably going to leave anyway.
“UF made me put another perspective on it. I look at it as being able to stay home, stay close to the family and play some big-time football.”
The Gators, according to On3’s Recruiting Prediction Machine, are trending with odds of 19.7 percent.
