Promising South Florida QB Dia Bell talks recent Miami offer and deep ties with the Hurricanes

Following his impressive outing at Miami’s Legends Camp on Sunday, the Hurricanes became the latest program to offer promising Plantation (Fla.) American Heritage quarterback Dia Bell, who has garnered interest from a handful of Power Five programs after great showings at several camps across the country this summer.
“Honestly, I was speechless because Miami’s always been in my backyard, and I grew up around that program,” Bell told CaneSport. “With my grandpa working there for 17 years as an assistant athletic director and my dad being around there all the time, I was pretty speechless when I heard that.”
The son of former 12-year NBA veteran Raja Bell and grandson of longtime Miami assistant athletic director Roger Bell, Dia is very familiar with the Hurricanes program and is pleased to see his hometown team showing love early on.
“It’s a big step for me, but it’s also great to know that the people closest to me are really interested in me playing football for them,” Bell said. “Having that connection and having my family there, it’s always great to go back and see everybody and meet new people.”
Bell, who currently stands at 6-foot-2, 185 pounds, was extended the offer by Hurricanes head coach Mario Cristobal following the conclusion of Legends Camp.
“Coach Cristobal is a great guy, and I can tell he knows what he’s talking about,” Bell said. “They told me they like how I throw and that they’re going to push to watch me in the future.”
Throughout the day, Bell also had the chance to work with Hurricanes offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson, who helped guide and instruct him through a handful of drills.
“He gave some pointers for certain throws and what type of drops to take on certain stuff,” Bell said. “You can tell he knows what he’s doing coming from Houston now to Miami. It was great working with him, and I can’t wait to go back and work with him more.”
With his recruitment picking up momentum after receiving offers from the likes of BYU, Florida, and now Miami, the 2026 prospect is playing it cool and has kept his focus on the task ahead, which is his sophomore season.
“It’s been a cool process, but I’m not too worried about that because I keep the main thing the main thing, which is winning with my high school team,” Bell said.
His father’s advice through it all?
“Really just keeping my head down and staying humble,” Bell said. “That’s what he always preaches to me, and I stand by that.”
CaneSport’s take
After playing as a backup throughout his freshman year, Bell is poised to be the starter for the storied American Heritage program this upcoming season. Bell is a natural thrower of the ball who also possesses natural athletic ability, which he uses on the gridiron. While his recruitment is just beginning to take shape, Dia Bell will be a name Hurricanes fans should keep an eye out for down the road.
