Projecting a top 5-star 2024 defensive lineman to Miami

Projecting a top 5-star 2024 defensive lineman to Miami

Miami’s progress with Chicago (Ill.) St. Ignatius 2024 five-star defensive lineman Justin Scott over the last month has been well-documented, with the Hurricanes visiting Scott’s school, maintaining regular contact and hyping up his official visit next month.

So now, I’m ready to take a bold step.

I have entered a prediction into the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine projecting Scott, the No. 11 overall prospect and No. 3 DL in the On3 Industry Ranking, to Miami.

My prediction comes with 60% confidence as Miami takes serious strides in his recruitment. It boosts the Hurricanes’ status as the RPM leader for Scott, which Miami has held since his weeklong unofficial visit to Coral Gables in mid-April. Miami is still battling programs like Georgia, Notre Dame, Ohio State and Michigan, but the Hurricanes have stood out enough for us to be confident in our prediction.

Miami has more than maintained its momentum after Scott’s April visit, which included watching a few practices and attending the Hurricanes’ spring game April 14, although there was initially some question about whether the post-visit high would wear off.

But it hasn’t.

Co-defensive line coach Jason Taylor has played a massive role in Scott’s recruitment, and Taylor, co-defensive line coach Joe Salave’a and defensive coordinator Lance Guidry have already made trips to St. Ignatius this spring to check up on the five-star lineman. The attention Scott has received has only bolstered his Miami interest, which led to my RPM prediction.

The Hurricanes have also continued to generate substantial buzz around Scott and have made him feel like the program’s top target.

When I asked Scott last week what he thought of Miami listed as the RPM’s leader, Scott didn’t have any objections.

I can definitely see why they are predicting me there,” Scott told CaneSport. “I don’t even know really how to feel about it. I love the Canes. I loved my time there. Every time I go back, I just get more and more comfortable.”

He added that he “can’t wait” to get back to Coral Gables and that his close family friend, Kyan Gibbs, is walking on at running back next season. That’s also played a factor in Scott’s interest in the Canes.

Scott has felt like a serious priority for Miami after the Canes made two evaluation trips to Chicago in eight days and loves the Hurricanes’ vision for him. Miami views Scott as a “versatile defensive lineman” who could play both inside and outside, which would allow him to work with both Taylor and Salave’a in practice — something he’s a huge fan of.

The 6-foot-5, 310-pound defensive lineman with a 97.63 Industry Grade will take an official visit to Miami June 16, after visiting Georgia June 2 and Michigan June 9. He will go to Ohio State June 23.

Scott has an On3 NIL Valuation of $261k.
