Priority target Jamari Howard, a Michigan State commit, sets Florida Gators official visit

One of Corey Raymond’s priority targets in the secondary has scheduled his next trip to the Swamp.

Jamari Howard, a top-100 prospect who is committed to Michigan State, tells Gators Online he locked in an official visit for June 2-4. Over a dozen prospects will be in Gainesville that weekend, including quarterback commit DJ Lagway, Ohio State wide receiver commit Jeremiah Smith and EDGE Jordan Ross.

The South Florida native is one of the Gators’ top flip targets following multiple trips to Gainesville this spring. He was offered a scholarship last summer.

Corey Raymond has also been turning up the heat as of late and has Howard’s full attention. His presence in Gainesville is a major reason why UF is a threat to complete the flip.

“It’s a big school. There are great opportunities for me to go to the next level,” Howard previously told GO. “I like how they produce all their players and help them get to the league. Also, I like how they run everything and run their defense.”

Florida State, the childhood favorite school, is a major factor in Howard’s recruitment as well, but the Spartans are saying all the right things to keep the cornerback on board.

Additional programs are still in the picture, including nearby Miami, but I am focused on Michigan State, Florida and FSU. They have been the most consistent since the start of the year.

According to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies, Howard checks in as the No. 10 cornerback and No. 79 prospect overall.

With On3, however, the four-star prospect is labeled the No. 5 cornerback and No. 44 prospect regardless of position. This rangy defensive back is a top priority for the Orange and Blue.

On3 Scouting Report on Jamari Howard

Long and rangy two-way player who turns whatever side of the field he is on into an island when playing corner.

Measures in at 6-foot-1.5, 175 pounds with a freakish 6-foot-8 wingspan. Jumped a 31-inch vertical and ran a solid 7.30 3-cone during the spring camp circuit prior to his junior season. Ran a 22.80 200m as well as a blistering 49.71 400m during his sophomore track and field season.

Uses his length to manhandle receivers off the line of scrimmage. Has the recovery speed to get back in phase with receivers to make a play on the ball. Will naturally fill out his frame as he physically develops.
