Priority Gators flip target is currently at the Swamp

Plenty of priority targets in both the 2024 and 2025 classes are meeting with the Gators today. Now, we can report another strong addition to this weekend’s visitors list.

Jamari Howard, a Michigan State cornerback commit, is back in Gainesville for the second time in less than two weeks. That is according to Gators Online’s Donavon Keiser.

Representing Hialeah (Fla.) Westland Hialeah, Howard is one of the premier 2024 prospects regardless of position, checking in as the No. 50 prospect overall and No. 7 cornerback in On3’s 2024 rankings. He is also the No. 6-ranked prospect in the talent-rich Sunshine State.

Although Howard is part of the Spartans’ class, Florida and Florida State are making noise and realistic flip destinations. The four-star prospect rated his recent visit to UF a “10” on a 1-10 scale, while FSU has received a handful of visits and was the childhood favorite program. Relationships with both schools are strong.

As for the Gators, defensive backs coach Corey Raymond is Howard’s go-to contact in Gainesville.

“The coaching is good, the facilities are nice, everything looks good. They’re trying to get me to play here, help them out and win a natty. I wanted to come check it out and make sure it was smooth,” Howard recently told GO.

“Coach Raymond is a good coach. We’ve been talking about how he produces good DBs, great DBs, and how he puts DBs in the league. Also, how he works with them an how he got them better.”

Howard recently said he’s “locked in” with Michigan State but plans to take several official visits. Florida and Florida State are expected to be part of that OV itinerary.

In addition to the aforementioned schools, the 6-foot-1.5, 170-pound defensive back possesses offers from Alabama, Georgia, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Penn State and Nebraska among many others

On3 Scouting Report on Howard

Long and rangy two-way player who turns whatever side of the field he is on into an island when playing corner. Measures in at 6-foot-1.5, 175 pounds with a freakish 6-foot-8 wingspan. Jumped a 31-inch vertical and ran a solid 7.30 3-cone during the spring camp circuit prior to his junior season. Ran a 22.80 200m as well as a blistering 49.71 400m during his sophomore track and field season.

Uses his length to manhandle receivers off the line of scrimmage. Has the recovery speed to get back in phase with receivers to make a play on the ball. Will naturally fill out his frame as he physically develops.
