Priority ATH target Ricky Knight details Miami-FSU recruiting battle with Hurricanes OV set
Palm Beach Gardens (Fla.) The Benjamin School 2024 three-star ATH Ricky Knight’s recruitment is heating up, and Miami and Florida State are duking it out for the 6-foot-1, 167-pound prospect.
Both programs are recruiting the newly-crowned three-star recruit as a defensive back, but he’s not ready to name a clear frontrunner in his recruitment. The Hurricanes and Seminoles have been the top two programs for most of Knight’s recruitment and showed heavy interest in him early, although Florida State leads according to the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine.
Knight made his third trip to Coral Gables in 2023 recently as the Canes continued their push to keep the south Florida local home. Like FSU, Miami is talking to Knight daily, and the Hurricanes impressed him on his visit. But the schools have totally different vibes for Knight.
“Honestly, there are too many similarities to name,” Knight said. “The differences are the vibes. FSU has a great and energetic vibe. Miami has that crib vibe.”
Knight has official visits locked in with both programs: he’ll visit FSU June 15-17 and Miami June 23-25. FSU is promising to push Knight beyond any limits he’s imagined for himself and won’t let him down. The Canes continued to emphasize how badly they need him during his trip and told him they want to develop him into a superstar, and Knight is continuing to listen to Miami’s pitch.
“Miami is a great school with some great players and they will have a great season this season,” Knight said. “Miami has shown they want to coach me and it’s only 2 hours away, so why not visit as much as possible?”
He’s receiving daily contact from a plethora of staff members including head coach Mario Cristobal, secondary coach Jahmile Addae, defensive analyst DeMarcus Van Dyke and a few other off-field assistants and analysts. But a staff’s recruiting effort won’t be the only thing Knight considers when it comes time to make a decision.
“My decision of school will all come down to where I can get the best education, best player development, who is going to help me be a better man, and where I feel like home is,” Knight said. “I will be making a decision likely on August 1.”
CaneSport’s Take
It’s becoming heavily apparent Knight deeply values loyalty in his recruitment, which is proven by the Miami-FSU recruiting battle as the two programs continue to look like his top schools. FSU was the first program to offer Knight before his stock skyrocketed following an impressive showing at the All-American Bowl combine in January, and Miami jumped on board early in 2023.
He now has more than a dozen offers from programs including Penn State and Texas A&M, but he hasn’t shown interest in any the way he’s shown interest in FSU and Miami.
