Previewing decision day for in-state TE Tae’shaun Gelsey

On Saturday afternoon, Jacksonville (Fla.) Riverside pass catcher Tae’shaun Gelsey will be announcing his commitment to one lucky program.

Florida, Auburn, Kentucky, UCF, Wake Forest and Tulane are Gelsey’s six finalists; however, Florida and Tulane are the lone programs that received an official visit.

Below is a preview of Gelsey’s upcoming decision:

HOW: Gelsey will be revealing his commitment on social media. You can find him on X (@GelseyTae) and Instagram (@presidential13__).
RANKING/RATING: Gelsey, listed at 6-foot-4, 210 pounds, is the No. 41 tight end and No. 710 overall recruit nationally for the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He also boasts a rating of 86.90. On3 lists Gelsey as the No. 45 tight end nationally.

The Florida Gators have the momentum

THE 411: Gelsey has been on the Gators’ radar since last year and made his way to campus multiple times. Assistant wide receivers coach Chad Lucas is the one who maintained communication prior to the offer, while tight ends coach Russ Callaway is now doing his part

Also, when the offer was made official, Gelsey posted a picture of his younger self wearing Florida Gators gear. That was notable. Gelsey has been watching UF for much of his life and now has the opportunity to live out those dreams. This is a big offer for his family.

However, additional programs also making a strong impression too. That’s especially the case with Tulane, which was the last school to receive an official visit. The Green Wave is likely UF’s top competition. Gelsey could likely play earlier there too, so it’s something to keep in mind heading into this afternoon.

As of Friday evening though, optimism in Gainesville is quite high. Florida plans to sign two tight ends this cycle and could have its class complete this weekend, as Madison (Miss.) Central standout Micah Jones committed earlier this month.

WHY IT COULD BE FLORIDA: Florida is the lifelong-favorite school and arguably the biggest offer for Gelsey. It’s the Power-Four program closest to his home too. Florida checks several boxes in this recruitment.
WHY IT COULD BE SOMEONE ELSE: Gelsey could likely play earlier at another school, with some of those suitors having offered much earlier too. This is an emerging tight end with the balls skills and red-zone ability to potentially play early in college.
