Predicting the Ole Miss Rebels’ next commit
Heading into Week 2, Ole Miss and Lane Kiffin are focused on the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets. But, as you know, recruiting never stops.
The 2024 class is now inside the Top 25 in On3’s Team Recruiting Rankings after the four-star additions of Kamarion Franklin, Noreel White and Trever Jackson. The group is currently ranked 22nd.
Of the 22 commits, 50 percent are from Mississippi and the class has a 32 percent blue chip rating. Kiffin’s group has seven four-stars now and is generating a ton of buzz as of late. Now with senior seasons underway, prospects are going to start pinpointing decision dates. Several prominent targets are on the verge of making an announcement and/or have decision dates set.
Let’s take a look at who could be the next public commitment(s) for Ole Miss.
4-star WR Deion Smith
School: Goodman (Miss.) Holmes Community College
On3 Industry Ranking: No. 74
On3 RPM: Ole Miss 92.6%, San Diego State 7.4%
The former LSU wide receiver tried to enroll at Ole Miss in 2022 but was unable to clear the required academic hurdles. Now in junior college, he is off to a hot start in 2023. He is set to be in Oxford Saturday and the Rebels are the runaway favorite. For now. His recruitment is sure to take off as he continues to dominate Mississippi junior college competition week in week out.
He currently holds offers from Ole Miss, Missouri, Toledo, Akron, San Diego State and Georgia Tech. One source told me the Rebels are “making Smith a priority” and “everybody is waiting to see if he will have academic issues”.
All in all, I expect Kiffin and Co. to be the group to beat here.

2025 4-star QB Deuce Knight
School: Lucedale (Miss.) George County
On3 Industry Ranking: No. 39
On3 RPM: Ole Miss 41.0%, Tennessee 24.1%, Notre Dame 10.6%, Alabama 4.6%
After leaving Lipscomb Academy (Tenn.) and returning back to George County (Miss.), Knight will have his sights set on getting his feet back under him in his hometown. But the recruiting process is about to heat up. Knight has repeatedly stated he wants to “see a few games” then make a decision in October. Ole Miss is the quiet favorite right now with Notre Dame and Auburn fighting for position. Tennessee has faded down the stretch and it appears to be a three-team race.
However, I personally believe this one comes down to yet another Hugh Freeze vs. Lane Kiffin battle. His return to Mississippi certainly can’t hurt Ole Miss’ chances and with Keelon Russell trending to SMU, I expect the Rebels to turn up the heat.
Additionally, he is set to visit Notre Dame next week for its game against Ohio State and I’d imagine he will be in Oxford for Ole Miss’ game against Arkansas.
