Prairie View A&M PA announcer absurdly celebrates made 3-pointer

The Prairie View A&M PA announcer certainly brought the energy with him for Monday night mid major college basketball. In an effort to hype up the home crowd after a 3-pointer from Braelon Bush against Mississippi Valley State, he was perhaps even a little overzealous.

Bush’s triple made it a 40-24 Panthers lead with 18:35 remaining and elicited a loud bellow from the announcer, who also played sound effects. The Delta Devils even took a shot at it on social media for being a bit over the top, though perhaps they were just in a sour mood due to the score.

“Bro chill out it was just a 3,” MVSU posted on X, formerly Twitter. “PA man getting his paycheck though.”

Prairie View A&M (5-23, 4-11 SWAC) ultimately would go on to win the game 64-56 to snap a 10-game losing streak. Bush led the team in scoring with 24 points while Tanahj Pettaway also added another 20, giving the fans plenty of reason to celebrate.

Mississippi Valley State dropped to 3-25 (1-14 SWAC).

Monday evening’s game was a largely meaningless one the the scheme of March Madness, as these two teams have zero chance at making it outside of winning the SWAC Tournament. But it mattered to the fans and family of players in attendance and its hard to fault the PA announcer for being excited about his job.

Dick Vitale calls for an end to handshake lines in college basketball

Tempers flared during BYU‘s 96-95 victory over Arizona on Saturday night, and after an emotional finish both programs had to be seperated during the postgame handshake line.

Following the incident, longtime ESPN and college basketball commentator Dick Vitale controversially called for an end to handshake lines in the sport after an intense finish in the Big 12.

“Tempers have flared after emotional battles at the shake the hand line . Y take a chance of a major brawl – have the handshakes before the game or do what the [NBA] does just find who u desire to greet after the game,” Vitale wrote in a tweet.

Emotions were high all night, but when the final sequence it was BYU who held strong to upset the Wildcats on their home floor. The fans were upset in particular about a foul call on Arizona’s Trey Townsend, which led to a pair of eventual game-winning free throws by BYU’s Richie Saunders with 3.2 seconds left in regulation.

Occuring in the final moments of the game, the handshake line was going to be tense. Both programs instead headed to their respective locker rooms instead of exchanging in the sportsmanlike tradition.
