Practice Report: Ole Miss football’s depth chart for Mercer will look something like this
Tuesday was the last look the media will have of the Ole Miss football team until Saturday when the season opens against Mercer at 1 p.m. in Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.
Since Lane Kiffin and the sports information department at Ole Miss did not reveal a depth chart, we spent most of the four periods of practice we can watch trying to figure out a close facsimile of a two-deep chart.
Based on a month of watching the team and our last viewing, here is how we believe the depth chart will shake out for the opener.
(One significant note: There are a few positions where players are interchangeable, most notably the safety slots and the wide receiver positions. Also, Ole Miss OL Victor Curne might technically be the backup at three or four positions.
This is certainly an unofficial depth chart that will require tweaking as Ole Miss goes through the season.)

Ole Miss wide receiver Jordan Watkins
The injury list for Tuesday appeared to be down somewhat. . . .
. . . . Ole Miss WR Jordan Watkins is back in full swing, as are CB DeShawn Gaddie and CB Demarko Williams. Still out are WR Zakhari Franklin, WR Larry Simmons, WR Jeremiah Dillon and LB Ladarius Tennison. New in black jerseys today signifying no contact, but working full speed, were Ole Miss DE Isaac Ukwu and S Teja Young.
The coaches are trying to be smart with some of the key veterans and are holding some out of practice. Today, DE Cedric Johnson and TE Caden Prieskorn were held out. One source said, “We know what they can do and they know what to do. We are planning ahead for game eight and beyond.”
Some players have changed jersey numbers that showed up in Tuesday’s workout. . . .
. . . . CB Richard O’Bryant went from #24 to #17, RB Matt Jones went from #40 to #0 and RB Jam Griffin changed from #6 to #8.
In a short best-on-best thud period, Ole Miss TE Hudson Wolfe caught a short TD pass from QB Spencer Sanders and O’Bryant and CB Zamari Walton both had interceptions off QB Jaxson Dart on Red Zone throws.
The media will have no more practice exposure until next Tuesday.
