Potential Michigan State targets to watch at Sound Mind Sound Body 7v7 Showcase

Potential Michigan State targets to watch at Sound Mind Sound Body 7v7 Showcase

Sound Mind Sound Body will host its annual 7v7 Showcase at Wayne State University this Wednesday and Thursday. It will feature the top teams and recruits from the state of Michigan, some of whom Michigan State has been in contact with.

The event will host several prospects who are already committed, including the newest member of the Spartans’ 2024 class, River Rouge four-star receiver Nick Marsh.

Michigan State has shown that it’s willing to search far and wide for recruits in recent years, but winning key in-state recruiting battles goes a long way in setting the tone for a class and building a competitive foundation as a program.

It doesn’t appear that any of Michigan State‘s uncommitted 2024 targets will be at the event, although there will be several 2025, 2026 and even 2027 in-state prospects to keep an eye on:

2025 Five-Star QB Bryce Underwood, Belleville

Underwood will be the most well-known prospect at this week’s showcase. The five-star signal-caller has already led Belleville to two state championships as a freshman and sophomore and is a consensus top-five player in the Class of 2025.

Underwood will have his choice of most any college when he decides to commit. He visited Michigan State frequently early in his recruitment, but has lately visited Michigan, along with a few southern schools. Underwood holds offers from Michigan State, Michigan, Ohio State, Alabama, LSU and Penn State, among 40 others.

2025 Three-Star LB/RB Andre Thomas, Jr., Belleville

Another prospect from Belleville, Thomas, Jr. is a three-star recruit and the No. 450 player in the 2025 class, per the On3 Industry Rankings. Thomas, Jr. has offers from Pittsburgh, Maryland, Toledo and Central Michigan.

2025 LB/EDGE Willie Fletcher, Detroit King

Fletcher could be considered a linebacker or an EDGE with his 6-foot-3, 225-pound frame. He has offers from Michigan, Oregon and Penn State, among others.

2025 Four-Star TE/EDGE Xavier Newsom, Detroit King

Newsom, another Detroit King standout, could wind up playing tight end or EDGE at the next level. He planned to camp at Michigan State in June but never made it. He has offers from Michigan, Penn State and West Virginia, among others.

2027 QB Darryl Flemister, Detroit King

Flemister has some big shoes to fill. Detroit King lost arguably the state of Michigan’s best-ever quarterback prospect last year in Dante Moore. Now, Flemister comes into Detroit King looking to start a new legacy. He currently has no offers as a rising freshman, but he is definitely a prospect to monitor over the next four years.

2026 WR/DB Damion King IV, De La Salle

De La Salle always seems to field some of the best teams in the state despite not having Power Five-level recruits year-in and year-out. Now, they have two 2026 prospects who both hold early offers from Power Five schools. King IV is one of them. He holds two offers from Illinois and Massachusetts.

2026 TE Lincoln Watkins, De La Salle

Watkins is the second of De La Salle’s high-level 2026 prospects. He holds an early Power Five offer from Arizona State, as well as offers from Massachusetts, Bowling Green, Central Michigan and Western Michigan.

2026 OL/DL Khalief Canty, Detroit Cass Tech

Canty has an offer from Michigan State and camped in East Lansing in June. The Spartans are the early favorites for Canty, although they will have plenty of competition over the next few years. Canty holds offers from Michigan, Tennessee, Penn State and Wisconsin. He has 12 total offers to this point.

2026 ATH CJ Sadler, Detroit Cass Tech

Sadler is another Cass Tech standout with a Michigan State offer. Sadler has a chance to become one of the most sought-after receiver recruits from the state of Michigan in recent memory. He holds offers from Alabama, Florida, Michigan, Penn State and Oklahoma, among others. There’s belief that he may play quarterback for the Technicians this year, too.

2027 WR Dakota Guerrant, Harper Woods

Guerrant is another rising freshman who could make a huge impact this year. Already listed at 6-foot, 175 pounds, Guerrant had a strong showing in Miami for the Battle 7v7 in January. He has offers from Michigan, Massachusetts, Central Michigan and Toledo.
