Position Week: Three bold predictions for Georgia CBs in 2024

Position Week: Three bold predictions for Georgia CBs in 2024

The 2024 season is almost here. Georgia is set to begin preseason camp this week on Thursday, August 1. It’ll be Kirby Smart’s ninth team in Athens and it’s looking to reach dynasty status by winning a third National Championship in four years.

The team has had the summer to get bigger, stronger, and faster and the pads will be popping soon. DawgsHQ has guided its readers through a week-by-week, position-by-position breakdown of the roster and we’re to the final leg. Now it’s time for some bold predictions.

Four cornerbacks will start for Georgia in 2024…

Not sure how the masses feel about this one but it doesn’t even feel like a bold prediction to me. Smart has a track record of playing the guy who has the best week of practice in tight position battles like this one. I also expect this battle to go throughout the season.

Daylen Everette, Julian Humphrey, Daniel Harris, and Ellis Robinson will each start at least one game this season and here is why. I expect Everette to be the guy on one side but I do think he’ll give way during games for a series or two each week. Humphrey has some valuable experience and is a fantastic cover guy. He’ll earn some opportunities. Harris is a physical freak who Georgia would love to have on campus this time next year. He has also been good in limited opportunities. Robinson is too good to keep off the field and it’s going to be come harder and harder hold him off as the year goes on.

Everette will get some All-SEC love…

I saw the same guy that everyone else did last year. Everette struggled at times to play the ball in the air. But I also think he did some really good things and held his own in some big situations. We’ve seen some cornerbacks struggle in their first season at Georgia, at least for a time, and turn into absolute studs in year two.

Everette has all the tools to become the next highly-effective cornerback in red and black. He has great size and length to go with the wheels to keep pace with everybody on Georgia’s schedule. Everette is also a physical football player who is going to help out in run support and tackle guys near or behind the line of scrimmage. He has had an offseason to shore up his weaknesses and should be a much more consistent player.

Demello Jones buzz…

I must admit that it was tough to get bold with the cornerbacks. Maybe it’s because we’re looking at a really talented group of four guys who should get Georgia through the season. I believe those will be the four who get meaningful snaps but I full expect to hear scout-team buzz on Jones this season. Harris did it last year, especially later on in the season. I think Ryan Puglisi might end up being the most mentioned of the youngsters but Jones is on the two or three-man list for the defensive side of the ball by year’s end.
