Portal Moser SZN is here for OU basketball

The next step was made for OU basketball, now we’ll see how the Sooners can build off this and move forward.

Head coach Porter Moser was able to get the Sooners into the NCAA Tournament, playing their best basketball at just the right time.

The type of ending to a season that actually gets fans fired up for what’s to come. And what’s to come? Well, we know it’s time for #PortalMoserSZN.

The basketball transfer portal window officially opened Monday. Buckle up, here we go.

“I’ll say this,” Moser told SoonerScoop. “To get your basketball program where you – you have to win in April and May. You have to win in April and May with the NIL. How hard these guys are playing. The narrative of last year and this year there were no bid steals. Someone was talking about the injuries. We had three major injuries down the stretch last year and there were five bid steals. The narrative could be two straight (NCAA appearances).

“For us? Retention. You gotta win in April and May in the NIL to do that.

“I’m so proud of how these guys fought through. All four years, the No. 1 basketball conference. Our competition with the NIL with what we have. I thought to be able to compete, the guys resilient in this league. I’m so proud of how these guys fought through hard to get to where we are. I’m excited about the future.”

OU was full of seniors, so no doubt Moser and staff will be busy. But there’s a lot of momentum to get the program where everybody wants to go.

Transfer Portal Defections

Luke Northweather

The initial day saw a couple of expected portal entries. If expected is too strong of a word, two guys that you figured might try to find a new home and a fresh start. Northweather has been in Norman for three seasons. He’s definitely had a moment or two, but he hasn’t been that consistent threat off the bench or developed into a physical presence. A quality outside shooter, Northweather will find a new home.

Yaya Keita

Keita went through senior night for OU, but he does technically have one season of eligibility left. He was a solid practice player for the Sooners, but most of the time? He wasn’t suited up for OU this season. Keita began his career at Missouri.
