Here are the final snap counts and grades for Nebraska’s offense against Michigan, courtesy of PFF.

On Saturday, the Husker offense converted just 3-of-10 third downs and 1-of-3 third downs in its 45-7 loss to the Wolverines.

Quarterback grades

HOL take: Quarterback Heinrich Haarberg was bottled up in the run game to just four designed runs for 22 yards. He had one 16-yard run and another QB scramble play for 11 yards. Those were NU’s only two run plays of 10+ yards until late in the fourth quarter.

Haarberg had his best grade of the season at 78.8 as a passer, completing 14-of-25 throws for 199 yards. It was his most passing attempts in a game, and he tied his career-high completion number.

Haarberg was 1-of-3 for 56 yards on throws that traveled 20+ yards and 3-of-5 for 50 yards on throws of 10 to 20 yards. He was 10-of-12 on throws of 10 yards or less. The key stat was third down. The Huskers converted just 3-of-10 third downs and their average third down distance was 8.8 yards, compared to a 4-yard average for Michigan.

Running back grades

HOL take: Nebraska’s top two running backs had just 25 yards on eight carries. It was not Anthony Grant’s day, as he scored 43.5 on run plays. His long rush was just 6 yards. Grant did score 72.9 in pass protection. 18 snaps for Emmett Johnson was a career-high.

Josh Fleeks’s 74-yard touchdown was a pleasant surprise to end the game. Before that run, the longest of Fleeks’s career was 17 yards in 2018. You have to think he might see some more time in the future.

HOL take: Billy Kemp had a 34-yard catch, and Marcus Washington had a 56-yard reception. These were the longest pass plays of the game for either team.

We saw Jaylen Lloyd have a 19-yard catch late in the game. Malachi Coleman did not log a snap this week on offense.

HOL take: Tight end Thomas Fidone had a 17-yard catch and a grade of 66.0 overall.

Janiran Bonner took the primary snaps at fullback instead of the injured Barret Liebentritt. He had two carries for 5 yards in the run game and was targetted once in the passing game.

HOL take: We saw a big drop in the overall run-blocking grade this week. NU was 82.8 a week ago to 58.1 against Michigan. Their overall run grade fell from 78.1 to 57.4 week-over-week.

Michigan blitzed Nebraska on 12 of 30 dropbacks, and Haarberg was under pressure on 13 of his 30 dropbacks. When Haarberg was kept clean in the pocket, he was 11-of-17 for 128 yards. NU’s tackles struggled, giving up three sacks and five QB hurries for eight pressure on 30 dropbacks.

On a positive note, guard Nouredin Nouili had his best grades of the season overall and in pass block. It was also the first game he did not rotate with Henry Lutovsky. On the season, Nouili carries an 88.4 grade in pass pro, by far the best on the team.
