PFF Grades for the Iowa Offense
It wasn’t always pretty, but the Iowa offense once again generated enough points to get to the winners circle on Saturday afternoon in Ames. Cade McNamara and the Hawkeyes generated 235 yards of total offense and got over the century mark in net rushing yards this week.
How did the Hawkeye offense grade out according to Pro Football Focus? We take a look at the individual grades based on the 52 snaps by the Iowa offense.
QUARTERBACK
Cade McNamara – Overall grade of 65.1.
TAKEAWAYS – McNamara was 12-22 for 123 yards according to the stat sheet. He threw one interception that was really questionable given that it appeared there was pass interference on the play.
More breakdowns of his performance.
When the pocket was clean: 10-17 for 86 yards
When he faced pressure: 2-6 for 37 yards.
Not Blitzed: 10-17 for 85 yards
Blitzed: 2-6 for 38 yards.
Play action: 4-6 for 65 yards
Non play action: 8-17 for 58 yards.
As McNamara gets healthy, it will be interesting to see the play action menu grow.
RUNNING BACK
Jaziun Patterson – Overall grade of 68.6
Hayden Large – Overall grade of 65.7
Leshun Williams: Overall grade of 58.7
Kaleb Johnson: Overall grade of 56.9
TAKEAWAYS: This was the Jaziun Patterson game. He had a career high of 86 yards and touchdown. He not only ran really well, but had a block where he took out two Cyclone players. He only graded out at 64.2 as a pass blocker in the game. Williams and Johnson were in the 57’s for rushing this week.

Kaleb Brown – Overall grade of 54.6
TAKEAWAYS – Lachey continues to be the main target for the Iowa passing game. He had a team high 7 on Saturday with 3 receptions for 58 yards. There were 11 targets and 6 receptions by the tight ends and 8 targets with 4 receptions for wide receivers. All had a solid 65.3 blocking grade in this game. He was very effective in Iowa’s counter plays.
OFFENSIVE LINE
Gennings Dunker – Overall grade of 60.0
Connor Colby – Overall grade of 58.7
Nick DeJong – Overall grade of 58.4
Rusty Feth – Overall grade of 56.3
Mason Richman – Overall grade of 56.2
Logan Jones – Overall grade of 52.0
TAKEAWAYS – From a grade perspective, not a great day for the Iowa offensive line. Generally 60 is average and everyone who played was either right there or below. Honestly, it was kind of surprising because they only allowed one sack and the run game was more productive.
