Peyton Woodyard on G-Day: ‘Like coming home and seeing family’

Ohio State and Alabama have played host to four-star Georgia safety commit Peyton Woodyard this week, but he was back in Athens on Saturday for G-Day.

For Woodyard, it reinforced why he chose to pledge his services to the Dawgs in the first place.

“It felt like coming home and seeing family,” he said.

That’s because the Dawgs continue to paint a clear picture of what a future in Athens means, both for him and the program with him in it.

“Georgia has always felt like home, and this trip was no different. I had the opportunity to meet with Coach [Kirby] Smart early in the morning as well as Coach [Will] Muschamp and Coach Fran Brown,” Woodyard said. “They all continued to outline a game plan for me and how I fit into their defensive scheme, but more importantly, what role I will play in continuing the winning culture on and off the field.”

That two-headed approach to Woodyard’s collegiate career and future after football continue to hold strong appeal.

“Georgia provides a platform for great football players, but they also want players that excel in all aspects of their life,” Woodyard said. “It’s a right fit for me, because I love competing on the field and in the classroom.”

And the Dawgs have even been open to Woodyard taking full advantage of his recruitment.

“Georgia is aware and supports my choices, and they have established a great relationship with me and my family. They understand that I’m still being recruited by schools,” he said.

Right now, however, it’s just Georgia who’s set to host him officially.

“I don’t have anything solidified just yet on other officials,” Woodyard said. “My official visit to Georgia is set for the weekend of June 2nd.”

Woodyard has also been doing some recruiting of his own on behalf of the Bulldogs, as well.

Fellow standout safety KJ Bolden mentioned as much on Sunday.

“Yes sir. I think it comes down to friendships and the respect we have for one another. We all respect each other’s game. Some of us talk about playing with each other,” Woodyard said.

Peyton Woodyard ranks as the nation’s No. 52 overall prospect in the Class of 2024.
