Penn State locks in new official visit following Sunday’s Elite Prospect Camp

Penn State head coach James Franklin and his staff have set another official visit for later this month. While players like 2026 edge rusher Zion Elee received much of the attention for his performance this past Sunday at Penn State’s Elite Prospect Camp, 2025 prospect and New Jersey native Braswell Thomas also had a very good showing.

The 6-foot-2, 185-pound athlete proved to the staff that he’s made some impressive strides in not only his testing numbers but also as a safety, which is where Penn State believes he’ll fit best at the next level. Now, following Sunday’s camp, the Nittany Lions have locked in an official visit with Thomas for June 21-23.

“They wanted to see how much I improved from last year with everything,” Thomas said. “Their coaches were looking at my speed, how I did in DB drills, agility drills, everything. They explained how they were extremely pumped to see major improvement from last year. They were very excited I went out to the camp and got after it and earned the official visit.

“The [official visit] was gonna be set up based on how everything at the camp went. They were pleased with how poised I came into the camp, knowing what I had to get done, knowing I had to be fluid and sharp but also just be me and not overthink it.”

Just like this past weekend, Thomas attended Penn State’s first camp of the summer in 2023. He ran a 4.7-second 40 last year and has since gotten that down to a 4.5. Thomas also made a big improvement with his shuttle and broad jump numbers.

But it may have been the on the field drills where Thomas shined the most. With other quality prospects like Axavier Bridges-Brooks and Jase Rhodes in attendance, Thomas looked the best throughout the day.

“I still believe I could have put on a better camp and attacked the details even more, but their coaches were very impressed and excited about my performance, including Coach Franklin,” Thomas said.

Over the past year-and-a-half, Thomas has traveled to Penn State on six occasions, which is more than any other school. His official visit will be his seventh trip overall and one of three official visits he now has set. The first of those will be a trip to West Virginia this upcoming weekend, June 7-9. He’ll follow that up with an official visit to Nebraska from June 14-16.

Thomas currently holds a three-star rating in On3’s Industry Rankings.
