Penn State locks in another important official visit with top offensive target

Another top target in Penn State’s Class of 2024 has locked in an official visit.

Wide receiver Jerrae Hawkins, a 5-foot-9, 160-pound speedster from Wheeling, W. Va., has been a regular visitor over the past year. Since camping at Penn State last summer – which is also when he earned an offer – Hawkins has taken three additional visits. That includes two visits over the past six weeks, as Hawkins attended a spring practice in March, then returned for the Blue-White Game a few weeks ago.

Hawkins, who transferred to IMG Academy in Florida in January, now knows when he’ll make it back to Happy Valley, as the four-star receiver has locked in an official visit to Penn State for June 23-25. That’s one of three visits that Hawkins has set for the summer. He also confirmed to On3’s Keith Niebuhr that he’ll visit West Virginia, June 2-4, before going to Florida, June 9-11.

Recruiting: QB Ethan Grunkemeyer opens up about Penn State offer

The On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine currently has both Penn State and Florida as the favorites with Hawkins. The Nittany Lions hold a 36.2 percent chance of landing his commitment, with the Gators just behind them at 31.7 percent. Hawkins admitted just a few weeks ago that those projections are accurate.

“I’d say Penn State, Florida definitely, and a third one I’m still trying to find,” Hawkins said, when asked which schools are in a good position to receive an official visit. “I got to get out on some more visits and I will probably find a third one. I feel like those two [Penn State and Florida] are neck and neck right now.”

Hawkins also said, “I like coach [James] Franklin‘s style of coaching. The vibe there is like Florida’s: it makes me feel at home. Coach Franklin, coach [Marques] Hagans and the coaching staff up there make me feel right at home. They talk to me a lot and we have been building a relationship since my sophomore year.”

Hawkins is the third wide receiver to confirm that he’ll take an official visit to Penn State. Earlier in the month, the Nittany Lions will host Michigan native Nick Marsh and Florida native Chance Robinson, both of whom rank highly on the staff’s recruiting board. Those visits are set for June 2-4. Although he hasn’t publicly announced a visit yet, we also expect New York native Josiah Brown to travel to State College in June as well.
