It’s time to dive into Monday’s top tweets and headlines about the Nittany Lions and college athletics.

Penn State tweets of the day

We start with more excitement about the Lions in 2023. On3 national college football reporter Matt Zenitz picked five teams who could make their College Football Playoff debut this season. Penn State was one of them. The others were USC and Texas.

“There’s definitely a case to be made that Penn State is among the five most talented teams in the country,” Zenitz writes. “The Nittany Lions are optimistic about their former five-star recruit at QB, Drew Allar, and have him surrounded by one of the nation’s top running back tandems, a strong offensive line led by first-round offensive tackle prospect Olu Fashanu and a defense that’s in line to be among the nation’s top units.”

Each of the last two years, there has been a first-time participant in the College Football Playoff.

In other news, former Penn State forward Lamar Stevens was traded to the San Antonio Spurs over the weekend.

“Stevens is going to lead by example while doing the dirty work on the basketball court, and he’s a scrappier player that every team wants to have on the court,” Kade Kimble writes for Inside the Spurs.

Full trade details can be seen in the tweet below.

Free agent Max Strus has agreed on a four-year, $63M sign-and-trade with the Cleveland Cavaliers, agent Mark Bartelstein of @PrioritySports tells ESPN. In three-team deal, Heat get a second-round pick and Spurs acquire Cedi Osman, Lamar Stevens and a second-rounder. pic.twitter.com/xKAmqlx3aF

Quote of the day

“Before I took my officials, Penn State was at the top. Then, as my visits started, I did start weighing my options more. When I got to UNC, they did become a serious option for me. But then, when I went back to Penn State, I realized that I needed that refresher.

“So, the answer was really always Penn State. I liked UNC, but I realized after that visit that I needed to be strong and pull the trigger on them. I did make sure that I still took my visit to Boston College, just to make sure that feeling for Penn State wasn’t a fluke.”
