Penn State adds rising offensive line target to Saturday’s visitor list

It’s been just over two weeks since Penn State extended a scholarship offer to Ohio offensive lineman Nolan Davenport. In that time, the Massillon native has already made one 8-hour roundtrip to State College. Now, he’s set to do it again just over a week later, as Davenport confirmed with Blue White Illustrated Thursday evening that he’ll be back in Happy Valley on Saturday for the Blue-White Game.

Since the January contact period, the 6-foot-5, 270-pound offensive tackle has seen his list of offers more than double. He’s also been aggressively visiting schools, traveling to Michigan State, N.C. State, Ohio State and Purdue in recent weeks. Add in visits to Cincinnati, Virginia Tech and West Virginia back in January and there’s no shortage of suitors for official visits this summer.

However, Penn State should be considered among the strongest contenders for Davenport.

“It’s been progressing well as we’ve begun to talk more,” Davenport said when asked about Penn State offensive line coach Phil Trautwein. “I can tell that he’s a really intelligent person and coach.”

In addition to his two most recent visits to State College, Davenport also attended a junior day at Penn State in January and the game against UMass last October. As of now, he has two official visits locked in, beginning with Michigan State, June 14-16. He’ll then go to Missouri the following weekend, June 21-23.
