Paul Finebaum predicts Colorado’s magical win streak to end Saturday vs. Oregon

ESPN’s Paul Finebaum doesn’t see Colorado’s winning streak getting past three games with Oregon on tap this weekend.
The No. 19 Buffaloes have to head to Eugene to take on the No. 10 team in the country and this is where Deion Sanders suffers his first loss as head coach of this team. Not to mention Colorado has to play USC the very next week in Boulder before hitting the road against Arizona State.
Finebaum explained why on Tuesday’s edition of First Take.
“Well, the Travis Hunter injury is really unbelievable, especially the cheap shot that was laid on him,” Finebaum said. “Having said all that, I can only come up with one (win over the next three). The competition is really getting ratcheted up.
“We’re not just talking about run of the mill pedestrian teams like TCU, Nebraska and Colorado State. We’re talking about some of the best teams in the country right now in Oregon and USC with elite quarterbacks and especially this weekend on the road.”
Finebaum just doesn’t see Colorado pulling off major upsets to really accelerate the rebuild that was already fast tracked under Sanders.
“I just don’t think it’s possible that Colorado with all the magic around this program that the two of you guys want to create is going to be able to get it done,” Finebaum said.
“Bo Nix is the quarterback out there. He’s been around a long time, he started at Auburn. He has matured into an excellent QB, he’s gotten a lot of compliments around him and as much as I think we would all like to see the streak continue, it ends Saturday afternoon.”
If anyone is confident that Colorado is going to keep winning, it’s Sanders himself. Other than Nick Saban, we think, Sanders called himself the best coach in college football when he sat down for an interview with 60 Minutes.
“Let me see a mirror, so I can look at it,” he said. “You think I’m going to sit up here and tell you somebody else? You think that’s the way I operate? That somebody else got that on me?”
Clearly not.
Sanders’ persona is a way of life at this point. It’s how he operates his program, why it’s successful and why it must continue all in one fell swoop. That’s not to say that Sanders is flying blind, though, based on his praise for Saban.
We’ll see if the magic can continue against Oregon, but Finebaum, among others, is of the mind it ends here.
