Patty Gasso shares how Oklahoma will rest, prepare for next WCWS game

Patty Gasso shed some light on how the Oklahoma Sooners will rest and prepare for their next time out at the Women’s College World Series.

While Gasso and company are chasing a third straight national title at the moment, they’re about to have a couple of days off. What’s the best way for Oklahoma to relax? According to Gasso, her team simply loves to watch some softball. That’s the mindset of a champion.

“Well, they like to relax, but they watch softball. They want to get away from softball, but they like to watch other people play softball,” explained Gasso. “I don’t know. I know they do, and they’re very emotional when they’re watching it. Like, Oh, what a great hit. It could be anybody. Doesn’t matter what team’s playing. They enjoy watching good softball.

“I don’t know if it relaxes them ’cause they’re yelling and screaming over it. They like to learn from it, and they like to also kind of quietly see what they’re up against, as well.”

The Sooners are just in love with the game. Instead of binging a television series or watching some movies in their time off, they’re keeping their focus on the diamond. That’s how you become the best team in the nation.

Continuing, Gasso explained to ESPN that her team views each impending game of the postseason as the biggest game of the season. That might sound pressure packed, but it helps them focus only on the next game and not get caught looking ahead.

“I think we understand every game we play from postseason on is the biggest game of our season, and they just focus on that,” Gasso said to ESPN’s reporter Holly Rowe.

That helped Oklahoma take care of business over Tennessee in the winners bracket on Saturday, earning their aforementioned day off and becoming one win away from the best-of-three championship series.

Now, Tennessee is on their way to play Stanford in an elimination game, with the winner getting Oklahoma on Monday. In the double elimination format, whoever would face the Sooners on Monday would need to beat them twice to get to the championship game. And Oklahoma has only lost one game all season.

“They know what’s important here, to try to get after this game because your day off puts you in the semifinals,” Gasso said. “So just put everything you have into it.”

As you can see, Patty Gasso and the Oklahoma Sooners are in a fantastic position, and there isn’t anyone who’s betting against them moving forward.
