Panthers GM Scott Fitterer breaks down top four QBs in the 2023 NFL Draft
We are currently less than 24 hours away from one of the most highly anticipated events of the sports calendar–the 2023 NFL Draft. And there’s the biggest question on everyone’s mind. Who are the Carolina Panthers going to take at No. 1 overall? We all know it’s going to be a quarterback, that much is certain. Which one, remains to be seen. The Panthers already know their selection. They’re just waiting until Thursday evening to reveal it to the world. On Wednesday evening, Panthers’ GM Scott Fitterer took some time to speak with ESPN’s Sal Paolantonio about what he thinks about the top four quarterbacks in this year’s draft class.
Check out the interview below. You can also read the transcribed quotes below the interview.
First, Fitterer took some time to speak about how the Panthers have built the pieces around the quarterback they’re going to select.
“That’s the exciting part. You know, we’ve been building this for a couple years now. Starting on defense. We went to the offensive line last year. We had a strong run game. And we’ve been building to the point to where we can take a quarterback and drop him in. Now, he doesn’t need to be the savior. He doesn’t need to go over the top and make every play. Just rely on the pieces around you,” Fitterer said on Wednesday evening.
Then, Sal Paolantonio asked the Panthers GM to discuss what he liked about each of the following quarterback prospects leading up to tomorrow night’s NFL Draft: Kentucky quarterback Will Levis, Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud, Alabama quarterback Bryce Young, and Florida quarterback Anthony Richardson.
Panthers’ GM Scott Fitterer shares his thoughts on the QBs
His thoughts on Kentucky quarterback Will Levis
“You know, you see the build. He’s a big, strong, physical guy. He can rip the ball. He’s smart. Really tough,” Fitterer said.
His thoughts on Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud
“Just his accuracy. His vision in the pocket. His touch. He’s a pure passer,” Fitterer said.
His thoughts on Alabama quarterback Bryce Young
“Love the intangibles. Love the playmaking ability. The elusiveness in the pocket. The ability to manage at the line of scrimmage. He can walk a huddle and he owns the huddle right away. He can walk to the line of scrimmage. He knows exactly what to do,” Fitterer said.
His thoughts on Florida quarterback Anthony Richardson
“Well, you watch the tape and you say, okay, you start talking about the accuracy and missed balls. But what you have to talk about is what can he do. This guy can run. This guy can rip the ball. He can make every throw,” Fitterer said.
Who will the Panthers take at No. 1 overall on Thursday night? That’s the question the whole sporting world wants to know. When he was pressed by Paolantonio who they were taking on Thursday night, Fitterer wouldn’t budge. “We have about 24 more hours,” he laughed.
Pull up a seat. One of the best events of the sports calendar is nearly upon us.
