Palmer’s Players to Watch: Georgia vs. Auburn

Palmer’s Players to Watch: Georgia vs. Auburn

Players make their mark on programs in rivalry games. With Georgia traveling to Auburn for another edition of the Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry, Bulldogs that step on the field will have their chance to do just that.

We’re getting straight to the point with this week’s players to watch, and we’ve got three for you that could come up big on Saturday.

LB Jamon Dumas-Johnson: I called my shot with this one on The Georgia Show, and I’m sticking to it. Dumas-Johnson has been less than pleased by his play so far this season. He went as far as to call it average. He however has an opportunity to turn it around starting this week against an Auburn team that relies on the run. The Tigers rank second in the SEC in rushing offense. They rank last in passing offense. In a matchup that’s the opposite of Georgia’s opener to conference play against South Carolina, Dumas-Johnson should have chances to come downhill and make plays against the run.

WR Dominic Lovett: Lovett had a big day against Auburn last year. With 102 yards on five catches, it was one of three games in which he passed the century mark. Georgia also had a receiver who had a big day against the Tigers last time they made the trip to Jordan-Hare Stadium, and the two play similar roles in Georgia’s current offense. While Kirby Smart remains optimistic Ladd McConkey might see the field on Saturday, I doubt he can do what he did last time. Instead, it’s Lovett that’s asked to have himself a big day.

S Javon Bullard: Bullard posted to his Instagram story “I’m back.” Cryptic social media posts are never something you want to read too much into, and maybe that’s what I’m doing here, but I’ve got a feeling that Bullard makes a big return. He’s the heart and soul of this defense it seems. He’s absolutely a key piece on the backend, and against a bad quarterback situation that Auburn has, I think he could make them pay.
