Pademelon poops on Fox Women’s World Cup stage instead of predicting winner
Matty the Pademelon had one job during her Friday appearance on FOX ahead of the USWNT’s opening match against Vietnam in the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
The FIFA Women’s World Cup Live crew wanted Matty to predict the winner of the tournament, with two options up for grabs: Team USA or The World. Matty, however, was in no mood to play along in any games. You see, Matty had an upset stomach, or might have been a little backed up. And so, making her U.S. TV debut, Matty decided to take a dump on the set in front of Stu Holden and Heather O’Reilly.
“Oh, no,” Holden said. “She’s taking a dump on the set.”
While Matty might’ve been hesitant to go all-in on Team USA, the same can’t be said about Women’s World Cup bettors. The USWNT remains the betting favorite to win its third straight Women’s World Cup coming off victories in 2015 and ’19.
Friday’s opening match in Group E served as the first step to accomplishing the feat, as the team recorded a 3-0 shutout of Vietnam. Sophia Smith opened the scoring in the 14th minute — her first-career Women’s World Cup goal. Smith, the up-and-coming forward, provided a brace just before the half to make it 2-0. The 22-year-old is the second-youngest player in USWNT history to score multiple goals in a World Cup game and the youngest since Cat Whitehill in 2003.

“We’re gonna expect her to do a lot,” squad veteran Megan Rapinoe said after the match. “We need her to do a lot. You know, she’s one of the best players in the world and the best players in our squad, obviously. She seems ready for it. I feel like she wants that herself. Whatever pressure we put on her, she’s already put on herself.
“She loves these moments. I feel like she loves being that player that has it on her shoulders and looks to perform in the biggest moments.”
With her Women’s World Cup debut behind her, Smith is looking ahead to the rest of the tournament, where she’ll be an integral part of the USWNT’s success.
“I felt good,” Smith said. “It was good to just get a game under my belt. I was feeling all the emotions going into it and not really knowing what to expect. So to start off on a good note, it feels good… It makes me just more excited for the next game.”
