Packers first-round pick Jordan Morgan will miss preseason opener with shoulder injury

Packers first-round pick Jordan Morgan will miss preseason opener with shoulder injury

Jordan Morgan, the Packers first-round draft pick, won’t play in Green Bay’s preseason opener against the Cleveland Browns.

Packers coach Matt LaFleur announced the news, Wednesday. Morgan injured his shoulder, Tuesday, the same day his name appeared on the first team of Green Bay’s first depth chart of the season. However, LaFleur said Morgan should be ready for the season opener next month. The coach said the shoulder injury was nothing “long term.”

The Packers drafted Morgan, the former Arizona star, with the 25th pick of first round pick of April’s NFL Draft. Green Bay wanted to select a tackle, with David Bakhtiari out of the Packers picture. Morgan did play left tackle in college, but he shifted inside to guard in Green Bay. You can check out the full depth chart here.

LaFleur will play the starters, including quarterback Jordan Love, against the Browns. But the Packers coach wasn’t sure how many snaps the more experienced players would see.

“I think we’ll just take it a day at a time and one game at a time and decide what (Love) needs,” LaFleur told reporters. “We have a plan in place right now, but subject to change.”
