Packed recruiting intel: Updates on NC State’s WR board

The NCAA dead period wraps up July 24 before resuming August 1. NC State will host its Alpha Wolf Showcase July 28 as the final major recruiting event of the summer.
Each of the Wolfpack’s top-three wide receiver targets plan on announcing their collegiate decisions during or shortly after that window. The Wolfpack has yet to add a commitment from a receiver this cycle but put itself in a good spot heading into this series of decisions.
Alex Taylor, Jonathan Paylor and Terrell Anderson are each top priorities for NC State. If they all joined the Pack, that would likely be the full receiver class. Going into the latter half of July, both Paylor and Anderson are trending towards the Wolfpack.
Jonathan Paylor
Paylor set his commitment date for Aug. 5 Tuesday afternoon after originally planning to push back his decision date.
He seemed like a South Carolina lock earlier this summer but, after checking around with a few sources, it sounds like the receiver’s recruitment is extremely close. In fact, I would give NC State the edge right now. The Wolfpack has done a great job building a relationship with Paylor’s family, which is one thing that previously helped the Gamecocks stand out.
This is a tossup and, with an August commitment on the way, a July 28 trip to NC State could be the inflection point of his recruitment. Both South Carolina and the Pack are hosting their final summer recruiting event that day, and he plans on attending the Alpha Wolf Showcase. He can not visit the Gamecocks that day due to conflicts with his father’s work schedule. Paylor will also visit UNC July 29, which is worth monitoring.
Paylor is ready to be done with the recruiting process and told me he is pretty much done with his decision-making.
Following these recent developments, I flipped my Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM) pick to NC State.
Terrell Anderson
Anderson, the No. 82 recruit in the country, is zeroing in on a commitment date. After planning on previously sharing his decision in early-to-mid July, the receiver shared Tuesday that he is considering an Aug. 1 announcement. That date does not appear set in stone, but it aligns more closely with the timeline he shared with TheWolfpacker.com prior to his official visit schedule.
NC State is still in a good spot, and I am keeping my RPM pick in-favor of the Pack. The coaching staff did a great job building a genuine connection with the top-ranked receiver in the state, and that helps the program stand out from Tennessee, the other finalist in his decision.
Anderson does not plan on taking visits later this month. His recruitment has been extremely quiet after his visits, and I believe that is a good sign for the Wolfpack.
Alex Taylor
Taylor is still trending towards UNC, but NC State is not giving up. All of the momentum continues to drift towards the Tar Heels approaching a July 29 decision. If both Paylor and Anderson commit to the Wolfpack, it will be interesting to see if they start recruiting their fellow four-star prospect to Raleigh.
