Packed recruiting intel: Notes on NC State’s March 24 visits
NC State hosted a few priority prospects on unofficial visits Friday, welcoming them to campus for an evening practice that, based on a video Tweeted out by the program, looks like it took place inside Carter-Finley Stadium.
Based on what I have heard from both the recruits and another source, it sounds like the trips went very well. Here’s the latest intel on a few of those prospects.
’24 four-star wide receiver Jonathan Paylor
Jonathan Paylor said his visit went great. A conversation with a source confirmed that sentiment. The receiver sat down with offensive coordinator Robert Anae and talked about the new offense.
’25 tight end Gus Ritchey
Gus Ritchey has always spoken highly of the Wolfpack, the home town school for the Norwood High star. He has recently visited Notre Dame and Michigan, but NC State continued to impress during his return to campus this week.
“Really special visit,” Ritchey said. I had a great time!”
After speaking with a source about Ritchey, it sounds like the tight end has very serious interest in the Wolfpack and really appreciates the hard-nosed culture of the program.
Ritchey elaborated on the highlights of the trip, which included a meeting with head coach Dave Doeren.
“Talking to Coach Anae and Coach Doeren for sure,” Ritchey said. “I loved that. Also seeing guys like Javonte Vereen out there playing. That was so cool to see.”
As his offer list continues to grow, NC State remains in a good spot.
“They are definitely up there. NC State has great coaches that have made me feel at home and this visit really solidified that. The players are really good to me as well.
“I’ve taken some really great trips lately to some amazing schools and there are some more that I definitely want to go see. This summer should be really interesting as far as my recruitment goes.”
’25 quarterback Will Wilson
Will Wilson is a class of 2025 quarterback who holds early offers from NC State, Penn State, Arkansas and Duke. He has visited NC State twice in the past, most recently for the 2022 Alpha Wolf Showcase, and he picked up a scholarship from the Pack in August.
The sophomore signal-caller enjoyed his trip to Raleigh.
“It was a really good one! I got a chance to sit down with [quarterbacks coach Kurt Roper] and got a better feel about him as a coach. I also I had chance to sit down with Coach Doeren and talk too. We toured campus a little bit and talked about what the University had to offer outside of football and then we watched practice.”
’24 punter Drew Miller
NC State hosted Drew Miller, the No. 1 punter in the nation according to Kornbluekicking.com, on Friday as well.
