Packed recruiting intel: NC State to host 5-star point guard

Five-star class of 2024 point guard Zamareya Jones will visit NC State this weekend, a source confirmed Thursday. Wolfpack women’s basketball will host the nation’s No. 17 prospect as it continues to build momentum in this recruiting cycle.

Jones is a 5-7 guard and ranks No. 2 in North Carolina’s senior class, per ESPN’s 2024 top-100. The senior five-star recruit released a top five July 28 that included Mississippi Sate, Georgia, Florida State, Alabama and NC State.

Her trip to NC State will be official visit No. 4 for the guard. Earlier this fall, she took trips to see Georgia, Mississippi State and Alabama.

Per Sports Illustrated, Jones finished the 2022-2023 season averaging 28.8 points, 5.6 steals, 4.7 rebound and 7.1 assists per game with Bethel (NC) North Pitt High. She also took home the North Carolina Basketball Coaches Association girls basketball player of the year award.

Jones is absolutely one of the Pack’s top priority prospects in this cycle. Per a source, she is scheduled to arrive in Raleigh Thursday, so the senior will have a chance to experience a Wolfpack game day atmosphere at NC State football’s game against Louisville.

The Wolfpack does not hold a commitment in the 2024 class yet but hosted two other official visitors earlier this year.

Both Devyn Quigley and Lorena Awou spent the weekend of Sept. 15 with NC State. Quigley, a 5-11 wing, is one of the top prospects in the country and ranks No. 47 nationally. She put up 34.9 points per game playing for Manchester Township (NJ) High last season, per nj.com, to go along with 11.3 rebounds and 3.75 steals.

Previously, Quigley took officials to Wisconsin, Texas A&M and Rutgers. Her trip to NC State was her final official.

Awou is a 6-4 forward who holds offers from Kentucky, Miami, Michigan and others. According to qctimes.com, she averaged 12 points and 12.2 rebounds per game as a junior.

Per a source, both of their visits went well, but there is not a clear timeline for either prospect’s decision.

In the 2025 class, NC State also recently hosted Aubrey Shaw, a 6-1 wing who plays for Overland Park (KS) Blue Valley North High.

The Wolfpack heads into the 2023-2024 season with 11 scholarship players, including center River Baldwin, center Lizzy Williamson and forward Mimi Collins, who are all graduate students this year, and senior guard Madison Hayes. NC State’s staff could sign a large class this year, one season after bringing in 4 scholarship freshmen, including five-star point guard Zoe Brooks.
