Packed recruiting intel: Is NC State on the verge of a OLine recruiting surge?

Going into the July recruiting dead period, which stretches from June 26 to July 24, NC State does not hold an offensive line commitment in the 2024 class. That will likely change soon.

The Wolfpack generated a ton of momentum during its official visits with a quartet of priority prospects. NC State plans on signing four offensive linemen, and, based on the most recent intel, it sounds like at least three of those spots could be filled by the end of July.

Interior offensive lineman Robby Martin, along with tackles Trent Mitchell, Tyler West and Deryc Plazz, all have some NC State buzz around them with a few commitment decisions looming. Per a source, Mitchell, Martin and West could all make their decisions within the next month. Plazz has a firm announcement date set for Sept. 23.

Here’s the latest on each of the four recruits.

Three-star interior offensive lineman Robby Martin

Martin’s recruitment started to trend towards the Wolfpack after his official visit, and it sounds like that trip to Raleigh made a huge impression. During that June 16-18 weekend, the lineman shared that he was meshing well with the current Wolfpack athletes.

His official visit was his third trip to campus and might have pivotal weekend in his recruitment. Martin visited West Virginia, his home state school, the week prior. Pittsburgh was originally scheduled to host him June 23-25, but, per a source, that visit never happened.

Based on what I have heard, the lineman has not made a decision yet, but I would project him to the Pack at this point. While visiting NC State, Martin told TheWolfpacker.com he hoped to commit by the end of the month. A source recently indicated that the timeline has been pushed back slightly to early July.

Three-star offensive tackle Trent Mitchell

Mitchell emerged as a highly recruited in-state prospect this spring with offers from Maryland, Virginia Tech and others. He visited NC State for January’s junior day before earning an offer later this year. His June 23-25 official was his first trip to campus since then.

The visit went well, and he will likely make a decision “soon,” the tackle said after his OV.

“It was great,” Mitchell said. “I feel like I fit right in. The first time I went, I didn’t get to see the rest of campus and everything, but it’s pretty cool. The people out there are great, great environment, very caring people.”

He also took trips to ECU and Maryland, but it sounds like he left the June 23-25 visit with Terrapins uncommitted, which is a great sign. If he chooses to make a summer commitment, and all signs point to that happening, then I would project him to the Wolfpack.

Three-star offensive tackle Tyler West

West continues to keep his recruitment close to the chest, but there is still some confidence out there that the tackle from Andrews could end up with the Pack. After speaking with a source, it sounds like a summer decision is ahead for him as well. Out of the four, I am probably the least confident about West’s recruitment, but I would still tentatively project him to NC State. Duke and Georgia Tech are also involved.

Three-star offensive tackle Deryc Plazz

Following his June 23-25 official visit, Plazz named NC State the leader of his recruitment, and the buzz behind the scenes has remained very positive. I submitted a prediction earlier this week in the Pack’s favor. The momentum in the offensive tackle’s recruitment fluctuated a lot during the official visit period but, once all of the hype slows down, I think his relationships with NC State’s staff will solidify the program’s lead.

Miami and Florida State are also contenders here.

Plazz’s decision timeline is a few months away so, if the other three recruits join the class this summer, the Jacksonville, Florida, lineman could be the prospect who solidifies a very solid class.
