Packed recruiting intel: 4-star South Carolina commit planning trip to NC State
NC State finished the summer with no linebacker commits in its 2025 class. South Carolina commit Jaquel Holman is the most recent prospect to pick up an offer.
The versatile athlete from Blackville-Hilda (S.C.) High is already planning his first trip to Raleigh and confirmed with TheWolfpacker.com that the Pack has his interest. NC State watched the four-star prospect’s film, loved it and extended the scholarship Tuesday afternoon.
Holman, who committed to the Gamecocks in June, wants to spend the weekend of Sept. 27 with NC State and officially visit the program for its showdown with Northern Illinois. He would be the only official visitor on campus that weekend based on the current schedule.
Holman rose up the rankings this summer after emerging as a Power Four prospect. In April, Old Dominion became the first Division-I school to offer him. His recruitment started to pick up from there. Pittsburgh and Liberty also offered the 6-1.5, 197-pound senior.
South Carolina extend its scholarship May 31, and the linebacker committed to the in-state program just over a week later. Holman called the Gamecocks his dream school before joining the class. He camped with the SEC program this summer, clocking a 4.49 40-yard dash and a 4.28 shuttle time.
His speed translates to the track as well. Holman won 1A state outdoor championships in the 100 meter dash (10.83 seconds), the 200 meter dash (21.98), and the 4×100 relay (41.94).
Blackville-Hilda head coach Kevin Jones told TheWolfpacker.com that the Pack started showing interest in the linebacker prospect early this year. In a previous interview with On3, he explained how the school utilizes Holman’s skill set.
“We blitz him, because he’s so big and fast, he’s coming off the edge a lot,” Jones told Gamecock Central. “(In college) he would have to learn really understanding playing in space, understanding coverages. He’s a sharp kid, so it wouldn’t be hard for him to do that.”
The linebacker recorded 76 total tackles, including 9 for loss, and forced 3 fumbles as a junior. He also rushed for 1,610 yards, averaging 10.5 yards per carry and scoring 26 touchdowns.
Holman enjoys playing offense according to his high school coach, and it sounds like the opportunity to carry the ball in college could be a factor in where he plays at the next level. Pittsburgh offered him as a running back.
On3 ranks Holman higher than any other recruiting service. He’s the No. 231 recruit in the country, the nation’s No. 21 linebacker and the No. 5 recruit in South Carolina’s 2025 class.
