OU softball Battle Series/fall ball set, meet the 2025 Sooners

Oh, it’s football time at OU, but softball is never too far away. That’s what Patty Gasso has created in Norman. Years and years of excellence and championships, even fall ball means something.

And this year’s edition might mean a little bit more. No, that’s not intended to be a pun about the SEC, but more about the team.

The familiar faces are gone. No Jayda Coleman, no Tiare Jennings, etc. You get the idea. It has been talked about a lot.

Here come the eight freshmen. Here come the transfer portal additions. It’s the new era for the Sooners. One Gasso is fired about.

“Yea, I think they’re probably going what am I witnessing right now?” Gasso told SoonerScoop last week at her statue unveiling. “I think they knew the history of our program but not to maybe this extent. I am excited because I get to coach again.

“And no offense to our last year’s team, they were all so good. All I did was kind of manage. I didn’t really need to coach. This year we’re going to be coaching and they’re just really, they’re prideful young athletes. They’re so proud to be here. And they really want to kind of pick up the torch and continue to carry it.”

Names like Kierston Deal and Cydney Sanders, who played a big role at times, are now going to expected do some heavy lifting for OU.

There is never going to be another senior class like the one that just departed. However, they’re not the four-time defending national champions for nothing. The championship culture is still there.
