OU preseason camp scrimmage report: News and notes

Weather didn’t exactly cooperate for the first scrimmage for OU during preseason camp, but the Sooners did get that work in.
The Saturday morning outing marks the end of the second week of OU’s camp. We are now three weeks away from the season opener vs. Arkansas State.
A lot to like and a lot to discuss for head coach Brent Venables going forward.
What happened on Saturday? SoonerScoop’s Eddie Radosevich has the, um, for lack of better term, scoop. OU is going to return to practice Monday. Media is expected to get access once again for the first 40 minutes.
OU scrimmage report
* First things first. No injuries. That’s a win in and of itself.
*The scrimmage was moved indoors because of lightning in the area.
*Running back Daylan Smothers is back with the team and participated in the scrimmage.
*First team offensive line: Walter Rouse, Savion Byrd, Andrew Raym, McKade Mettauer & Tyler Guyton.
*Second team offensive line (LT to RT): Cayden Green, Nate Anderson, Troy Everett, Caleb Shaffer & Jake Taylor.
*Different looks with Gavin Freeman in the backfield; motioning out, that kind of stuff. We saw Jeff Lebby use him in various roles last year (along with Jalil Farooq). Will be quite fun to see how Lebby uses the WRs in different packages while they all share one common characteristic: Speed. And lots of it.
*Jackson Arnold looks comfortable running the offense but it’s *obviously* early; He had a long run on a keeper around the right edge/probably would have had to beat a safety but they’re not making contact with the QBs.
*Gracen Halton took back a Dillon Gabriel INT off a tipped pass at the line; Jaren Kanak was responsible for the tipped pass that was batted around ultimately landing in Halton’s hands and he was off to the races.
All that and a whole lot more from SoonerScoop.
