OU commit Aaliyah Chavez wins McDonald’s All-American 3-point contest

OU commit Aaliyah Chavez won the McDonald’s All-American 3-point competition on Monday.

Chavez, who committed to the Sooners on March 25, is ranked as the No. 1 recruit in the country. She is one of 24 players selected to be a McDonald’s All-American and will play on the West team. Of those 24, 10 of them are headed to the SEC — the most of any conference. The game is set to take place on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. CT on ESPN2.

For Chavez, winning the 3-point competition should be no surprise. She’s considered the best 3-point shooter in the country in the 2025 class. At Monterey High School last season, Chavez averaged over 35 points per game on her way to becoming the National Gatorade Player of the Year.

Chavez’s recruitment became a national story over the last year, as many believe she could be the next star in women’s college basketball. She chose OU over many top programs including Texas, LSU and South Carolina. Thanks to Chavez’s commitment, Oklahoma now has the 15th best class in the country.

It also makes the Sooners potential title contenders and gives them so nice momentum heading into the offseason.

“This team has done an amazing job of growing to be able to attract some attention from really high-level players,” OU coach Jennie Baranczyk said. “I think it’s because of the culture of this program and the foundation. So we’re excited about continuing to evolve as a program.”

Chavez proved that on Monday, once again claiming the national spotlight for OU.
