OU basketball puts up zero resistance at Missouri

OU basketball continues to say all the right things. No, seriously. Head coach Porter Moser is preaching about fighting through hard. Brycen Goodine said everybody is trying to do the right thing, but just not executing it the right way.

But the last three games? That’s about as bad as you can look. Another 20-point halftime deficit. Another game where OU looked dead in the water and the second half didn’t matter.

And for the second time this SEC season, OU is battling a three-game losing streak. The Sooners were dominated by host Missouri 82-58 on Wednesday night to drop to 3-8 in SEC play.

Everything just looks so hard for OU right now. It can be that way when you’re flirting with shooting 30 percent from the field for the third straight game.

Look, we know the schedule offered zero favors. But you can’t go 1-4 during this five-ranked opponents fest and look so outmatched.

OU lost by 28 at Auburn last week and trailed by as many as 28 vs. Tennessee. Against the Tigers? The margin got up to 29 in the second half.

Something has to wake this team up, but what? And frankly, you’re starting to run out of time for anything positive to happen.

Duke Miles led OU with 18 points, so you’re hoping that might carry him over a bit. Jalon Moore had 10 points and seven rebounds before fouling out. Jeremiah Fears added eight points and seven rebounds.

The good news? The five-game stretch is over. For one game. For one game, OU (16-8, 3-8) gets to host LSU at 5 p.m. Saturday. The Tigers are 12-12 overall and 1-10 in the SEC. That’s it. As must-win as they’ll ever get. After that? Five straight games against ranked opponents again. You cannot cry about it. Figure it out somehow, period.
