OT Marcus Mascoll locked in with Gators — and actively recruiting

Nearly three weeks have passed since offensive tackle Marcus Mascoll of Snellville (Ga.) South Gwinnett committed to Florida and today he’s actively trying to help the Gators add to the 2024 recruiting class.
“I’m trying to get (cornerback Jalyn Crawford of Georgia) to come on board,” Mascoll told Gators Online. “It’s him and (offensive tackle) Fletcher (Westphal). I’m just trying to build this class.”
Mascoll’s pitch to Westphal?
“I just feel like it’s the move because of the coaching system they have,” Mascoll said. “O-Line wise, we have a chance to go in and play early, get better every day, polish your craft.”
Mascoll, the No. 42 offensive tackle in the country for the On3 Industry Ranking, committed to the Gators on June 19 over LSU and was part of a recruiting wave that saw the Florida class surge to No. 3 in the rankings.

“I feel good,” Mascoll said. “I feel like I made the right decision. Everything is really settling in. I’m not having any second thoughts about it. It was an exciting couple weeks. I remember seeing that Florida is on fire right now. It’s great to be part of the rebuild and be part of a great class.”
Mascoll said he talks to Florida offensive line coaches Rob Sale and Darnell Stapleton “almost every day.”
Mascoll will visit the Gators again later this month
Mascoll is not an early enrollee, so he will arrive on campus as a student next summer. At this juncture, his run blocking is his strength, he noted.
“I like to run block and get after it,” he said.
Mascoll said he will room with another Gators offensive line commit, Mike Williams, at Florida. Meanwhile, he plans to be back in Gainesville on July 29 for the Gators’ recruit cookout. He will make the trip with his father.
Meanwhile, Mascoll said he and the other Florida commits communicate regularly in a group text.

“We all text, DJ (Lagway), Aaron (Chiles) — we’re all in a group chat,” Mascoll said. “We all stay connected. They’re all great dudes. It’s great to just talk to them and get to know each other more. They’re all impressive. All good players. It will be great to be able to play with them, and go against them in practice. Overall, I feel like we’re in a good spot. Trying to get more corners on board. But we’re in a good spot overall.”
Mascoll’s brother, Justin Mascoll, is a senior defensive lineman at Clemson.
“He was glad I made the decision I made,” Marcus Mascoll said. “He was happy I chose Florida.”
