Oregon lands commitment from Texas forward transfer Devon Pryor

Oregon lands commitment from Texas forward transfer Devon Pryor

On Saturday Afternoon, Oregon landed a transfer portal commitment from former Texas Forward/ Wing Devon Pryor.

The portal is starting slowly but surely get moving, and I was a bit late in catching this one. I mentioned in the message board earlier today that I was confident enough to say that Oregon and Pryor had been in contact. It appears they were far more than, “just in contact.”

After losing forward Mookie Cook to the transfer portal this past week, Oregon definitely needed a lengthy athlete like Pryor. In his two seasons with the Longhorns, Pryor played in 30 games, starting in 2 this past season. Devon played 7 games in his first season as a Longhorn, and 23 this past season, with injuries still being a bit of an issue. The Houston, Texas native averaged 3.2 points, 2.0 rebounds, 0.5 assists, 0.3 steals, and 0.1 blocks per game.

Pryor’s shooting splits this past season from the field and the free throw line were very promising, at 51.8%, and 81.3% respectively. The deep ball for Pryor definitely needs some work, as he shot 20.0% in his freshman season, and 18.8% from 3-point this season on the same volume per game. He has two years left of eligibility despite playing in only 30 games in two years at Texas.

Impact:

Oregon grabbed competition at wing, which they really needed after Mookie Cook hit the transfer portal, and all things considered this ended up going well for Oregon. Pryor projects to be a really good rebounder for his size, and the wingspan/ frame definitely excites you. Although he’ll likely be a backup this season, if he improves enough he’ll be in line to start for the 26-27 season.

As things currently sit I would envision the rotation looking something like this:

PG: Jackson Shelstad (Jr.)

SG: Jamari Phillips (So.) / Dezdrick Lindsay (R-Jr.) / JJ Frakes (Fr.)

SF: Jadrian Tracey (R-Sr.) / Devon Pryor (T-Jr.) / Oleksandr Kobzystyi (So.)

PF: Kwame Evans Jr (Jr.)

C: Nate Bittle (R-Sr.)

I’m unsure of Lindsay’s eligibility due to the JUCO ruling, and will update that when I know more. As for the rest of this, Jamari Phillips is rumored to be playing more point guard next season and overall is in line for a ton of playing time. The Ducks still need two backup bigs, and at least one more guard. Also, here’s your reminder that there are no more walk-ons, Oregon can have 15 scholarship players if they so choose, but my assumption is they won’t.
