Official visit season is underway for one of the nation’s best safeties as Peyton Morgan kicked off his June with a trip up to Nebraska.
The Huskers have been a staple in the On300 defensive back’s recruitment for months, and after a multi-day official visit to campus Nebraska has effectively asserted itself further into the mix with Morgan, the No. 8-rated safety in the country out of Pflugerville (Texas) Weiss High School.
Part of the Cornhusker’s appeal to Morgan is the defensive scheme.
Nebraska safeties coach Evan Cooper has kept a business-like approach with the Central Texas four-star throughout this process and Garrett McGuire has been pivotal in opening Morgan’s eyes to the Big Ten. After this trip to Lincoln, those relationships have taken another step forward.
“It was way better to see those guys in person because the relationships felt way better,” Weiss told On3 after his weekend official visit to Nebraska. “The people over there are different, but they’re very good people and very funny.”
For Morgan, relationships loom large, and that’s one area that members of the Cornhuskers’ coaching staff checked off exceedingly over the weekend.
“The coaching staff, the facilities and really the people and the tradition of Nebraska stood out,” Morgan noted.
“I like how they treat me well and I like their defense,” Morgan previously told n3. “Nebraska’s defense is good and Evan Cooper is a real dude. That’s my guy. He’s real with you, he’s straight to business and he’s just always there and real with you.”
Texas Tech, Arizona official visits on deck
Morgan is likely to have a commitment in place before his senior season at Weiss gets underway. Texass Tech and Arizona are next up on the official visits for the four-star safety.
The Red Raiders were the first team to extend an offer in the direction of Morgan, who hits Lubbock next on June 9-11 for an official visit.
“Texas Tech, for sure, Nebraska and Arizona, those three (schools) are really in there,” Morgan told On3. “I’m hoping to see how they treat me and check the campuses out, see the academics and what they can do for me there.”
“I’m seeing which coaches keep in touch with me; that’s what I care about the most,” he continued. “I want a coach who has a good relationship with me. I want to play for a coach who wants me and shows that he wants me.”
