On300 athlete Josiah Brown on why Michigan is a top school

Josiah Brown recently made a big cut in his recruitment.

The On300 athlete out of Hicksville (N.Y.) Holy Trinity released a Top 7 of Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Michigan, Notre Dame, Penn State and Rutgers last month.

So why did U-M make the list?

“I love Michigan,” Brown said. “It came down to how great the school is. I had a great conversation with them. I’m planning to make a visit up there. I know they have good academics, especially with business, which is what I want to major in.”

Michigan safeties coach Jay Harbaugh extended an offer to Brown in the winter and has been leading the way for the Long Island product.

“I really like Coach Jay Harbaugh,” Brown said. “He’s a standup guy. From what I’ve seen and from our conversations, he wants to develop me to become a better overall human being and not just on the football field. He’s very competitive. He has a history of being a good coach.”

Brown has taken a methodical approach to the recruiting process and hasn’t had the opportunity to make many visits. That will change this summer as Brown hopes to get out to all of his top schools.

His trip to Ann Arbor will mark his first-ever recruiting visit to Michigan.

“I’m looking forward to learning more about Michigan,” Brown said. “I want to see the academic side, the facilities and the locker room. I want to see how everybody handles themselves and things of that nature.”

Brown is listed as an athlete, but the Wolverines are pursuing him as more of a safety. Brown, who runs a 10.7 100-meter, is open to playing on either side of the ball.

“My heart is at receiver,” Brown said. “But if it so happens that I play defensive back, I know that I can be really good at it. I’m a hard worker, and I want to be the best version of myself. Whatever happens, I’ll be happy with it.”

Brown has June official visits scheduled with Georgia, Penn State and Rutgers.

At 5-foot-11, 170 pounds, Brown is ranked as the No. 10 athlete and No. 220 overall prospect nationally, per the On3 Industry Ranking.

Brown has an On3 NIL Valuation of $69K with 5.1K followers across all platforms. The On3 NIL Valuation is an index that looks to set the standard market value for both high school and college-level athletes. The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.
