On3 Rankings Director Charles Power breaks down On300 2026 Michigan CB commit Brody Jennings
Michigan ended its annual late July BBQ at The Big House with a commitment from On300 2026 Jacksonville (Fla.) Mandarin cornerback Brody Jennings. He became the second prospect next cycle and also the second player out of Florida following Top 100 Cocoa (Fla.) High quarterback Brady Hart to choose the Wolverines.
“I think, for starters, Brody has good size,” On3 rankings and scouting director Charles Power told The Wolverine. “Runs well at that size, and he registers as a good athlete. Solid athlete in the combine setting. When you watch him on Friday nights, he’s a two-way player as a sophomore playing as a corner and receiver. I think his ball skills will transfer over well to corner. He’s physical in coverage. He shows a good understanding of just reading routes and staying in phase with the receivers. Just going back and watching his sophomore stuff in the context of seeing him in the camp setting as well, I think he was a guy who we felt good about just putting in the On300 right now. We’re looking forward to seeing how he plays as a junior.”
At 6-foot-1, 175 pounds, Jennings possesses the physical structure and athleticism that Michigan and defensive backs coach LaMar Morgan are eyeing for their island defenders.
“It definitely seems like he fits what Michigan values as a position,” Power said. “He has a good frame. He’s going to continue to get bigger. But I think right now, at this point in the 2026 cycle, he’s one of the taller top corners. There’s probably a handful who are over 6’1″ or in that 6’1” range, and he’s one of them. So, I think his size certainly fits what Michigan likes. When you look at the type of coverage that he excels at, I think that fits in with what Michigan wants to do at corner.
“Ideally, you want a guy like him to be a multi-year starter, but it’s a little early to say what I would expect for his career, given that he has over half of his high school career left. But he certainly fits the type of corners that has seen success in Michigan.”
Jennings enters his first season with juggernaut Mandarin after two years at nearby Jacksonville (Fla.) Sandalwood. He now surrounds himself with a litany of talent, including five-star wide receiver Jaime Ffrench, so how he grows accustomed to his new setting and new competition will be monitored closely.
“Looking forward to seeing how he, in general, plays,” Power said. “I would expect he’s probably going to play a lot more on defense, given what Mandarin has on the offensive side of the ball. But I guess that remains to be seen a little bit. But he’s transferring to a top program, one that played for a state championship in 2023. He’ll have a lot of eyes on him. In general, with these 2026 players, there’s two seasons of varsity football left, so the most important evaluation points remain. We’re just looking for general progress in how he’s playing. But I do expect we’ll see more of him at as a pure corner this season. So, we’ll come away with just a more crystallized vision of his coverage skills.”
Power said there isn’t a particular aspect about Jennings’ game that needs excessive tweaking.
“We like what we saw in the camp setting. It’s probably just more about his general play,” Power said. “I think with these young prospects, you want to see improvement in any area, but I wouldn’t say there’s anything that’s necessarily glaring that we would want to see. He’s tested as a good athlete, but I think just continued growth from a skillset perspective and continuing to improve athletically.”
So, which Michigan player on the current roster would be comparable to Jennings?
“He reminds me a little bit, probably at the same stage, like Jyaire Hill,” Power said. “I think Jyaire was playing at a lower level and was probably a little more dominant at that level. But I think just in terms of the size, the athleticism at the same stage, the two-way play-making ability, body type, I think there’s a good bit of similarity there. Jyaire continued to get better and better as he went through his high school career. That would be the hope for Brody as well. But I think at the same stage, I do see some similarities between those two.”
Jennings is listed as the No. 216 overall prospect and the No. 22 cornerback in the country, according to On3. He’s also the No. 35 player in Florida.
