On3 Industry Ranking top-100 WR Dre’lon Miller commits to Texas A&M

There have been so many twists and turns through Dre’lon Miller‘s recruitment — but first impressions can have a lasting impact.
Such was the case with Miller, the On3 Industry Ranking‘s No. 14 wide receiver out of Southeast Texas, who has long been a priority target on offense for Jimbo Fisher’s Aggies. After wrestling with USC and also LSU for a good chunk of the spring and summer, Texas A&M edged out the Trojans for one of the nation’s most dynamic pass-catchers.
Miller took official visits to both Miami and USC in June, then squeezed in an unofficial visit back to Baton Rouge. Back home in Texas last weekend, the On300 pass-catcher absolutely tore it up in the state 7-on-7 tournament with Silsbee (Texas) High School in College Station last week. In between, Miller was able to get back on campus for a final look at Texas A&M before his June 29 decision date.
Miller turned his cell phone off on Monday after returning back home for several days to contemplate his decision. Ultimately, all roads led back to Aggieland by Thursday.
Decision came down on Thursday
“I made the decision today, and USC and Texas A&M were neck and neck the whole time,” Miller told On3.
“I prayed on it and I kept praying on it,” he went on. “Texas A&M made me feel welcomed. They made it feel like I’m going to play for my high school. I know the whole coaching staff, all the players there, and I already know I’m a priority over there.”
“Since I was a sophomore, they put their trust in me with a scholarship,” Miller continued. “I trust in that team and what Jimbo has going at A&M. I know they didn’t have the brightest season (in 2022), but I can come in and make a difference, and going somewhere I can call home is special to me.”
Miller’s decision came organically.
While on campus last weekend, Miller got a purer sense of his role in the Aggies’ offense. He also felt comfortable back in College Station and around the coaches and players, and is set to enroll in January.
“They’ve seen the way I’m used at my high school and they want to do that. They want to use me in the way they’re using Anias Smith,” Miller said. “Knowing everything they told me was true, I’ll fit right in. Knowing the way they treat my family, how Jimbo has treated my family — it’s been amazing. They’re in my corner and they were excited.”
Relationships loomed large for Miller down the stretch
It became a three-team race for the On300 pass-catcher as June got underway. Down the stretch, however, it became a head-to-head battle between Fisher and Lincoln Riley.
The Aggies have been embedded with Miller since he was a sophomore at Silsbee (Texas) High School and closed strong with one of the state’s best from the Golden Triangle.
“I believe they’re really kicking it into gear,” Miller told On3 after getting a look at Texas A&M earlier this offseason. “I’ve watched their practice and I like how they do things. Jimbo has relationships with all of the players and I like the way things go there.”
“A&M has been great,” he continued. “With Evan (Stewart) there, Bryce Anderson from Beaumont, they’re recruiting me hard. Coach (Dameyune) Craig wants me to play with Evan and Evan is trying to get me over there to play with him.”
Texas A&M continues to win its own state
The Aggies have made Southeast Texas a top priority under Fisher.
Not only were they early on Miller, but have always viewed him as a movable chess piece in the offense in College Station.
“This was the best time I was there,” he said of a visit to College Station last summer. “I’ve been to all the football games but this time I got time to talk with all of the coaches, all the position coaches, and the players more. It was actually great. Bryce Anderson is out there and we chopped it up and got his words, his takes on the coaches and this and that, and how they run their program.”
Last season, he piled up more than 1,700 yards of total offense, including 241 scores and 1,400 yards receiving. Miller has found the end zone 36 times over the past two seasons at Silsbee (Texas) High School — where he is a three-sport athlete averaging better than 17 points, 14 rebounds and 2.1 steals per game playing hoops and also competing on the 4×100 and 4×400 relay teams.
Miller is the No. 78 overall player in the country, according to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies.
