On3 5-star OT Jonathan Daniels locks in return visit date to Auburn

On3 5-star OT Jonathan Daniels locks in return visit date to Auburn

Five-star offensive tackle Jonathan Daniels visited Auburn on Jan. 28, and On3’s No. 9 overall recruit in the 2024 class will be returning soon.

Daniels, from Pine Forest in Pensacola, Fla., will be back on the Tigers’ campus this week.

“I’ll be stopping by Wednesday,” he told Auburn Live.

Auburn will be holding its 11th practice of the spring that day. Daniels will be there to see it. He’ll also get another tour of the campus and facilities, and maybe most importantly, get to meet more with the Auburn coaches.

“When I had my first conversation with Coach (Hugh) Freeze he already knew me,” Daniels told Auburn Live’s Keith Niebuhr earlier this month. “He welcomed me with open arms. We sat down and had a conversation. He wanted me to come back more and visit more to get more of a bond.”

Daniels looking forward to more time with coaches

Daniels on Wednesday will get that opportunity. He already has a checklist of things he wants to do.

“More one-on-one time and just watching the practice and how the coaches coach and seeing how the players build a connection with teammates and coaches,” Daniels said.

That includes offensive line coach Jake Thornton. The two already have developed a strong bond.

“He’s a great coach,” Daniels said. “He texts me, calls me every day. We FaceTime. They’re all just fired up for me to come back down there.”

Daniels, who is listed at 6-foot-5 and 285 pounds, is ranked the No. 134 recruit and No. 8 offensive tackle in the On3 Industry Ranking. On3, however, is much higher on him, ranking him the No. 9 recruit in the country and No. 1 offensive tackle.

Daniels’ On3 Personal Life tab

Jonathan Daniels has played on both sides of the football during his junior and sophomore seasons for Pensacola (Florida) Pine Forest, but his high school coach, Ronnie Douglas, believes his star linemen has the tools to be a future NFL star.

“He’s got everything you want – size, length, flexibility and he moves his feet so well,” Douglas told On3. “He’s also got a mean streak but is extremely coachable.”

Daniels said he loves playing on both sides of the ball because it helps him become a “smarter blocker on offense.”

Daniels, who goes by the nickname Jonny, says former Tampa Bay Buccaneers star Marvin Sapp is his favorite player. When he’s not playing football, he enjoys playing Fortnite. He says his favorite foods are peanut butter and chocolate. He reports a 3.1 GPA and plans on majoring in mathematics in college. His parents are Tocarra McCants and Carmelo Colley.
